Since NE declined his option, we can’t claim it? I don’t know

I had inquired about this a few months ago when it appeared Michel was on the trading block and at the time most believed his new team would be able to pick up the 5th year option.

I thought Michel was worth more than a 5th and 6th, or possibly 4th, but I appear to be in the minority. The guy carried the Pats to a Super Bowl victory and was looking spectacular so far this training camp.

If y'all don't really know the dude, you may recall a Rookie that ran for the games only TD, and nearly 100 yards defeating our Rams in Super Bowl LIII.

And if you still don't remember him, he was the dude, that on the final scoring drive with the game on the line, (10-7 Pats) ran for 41 hard yards play after play, eating up critical clock to set up thier ST for the chipper FG to ice the game.

Yeah, well I remember him, and I really like a dude like that!

Except for that game

He's all yours' now.

Like most Pats fans, I hated to see him go. I'd rather see him on the Rams than the Chiefs or the Steelers.

The stable of RBs in NE this year make moving him a must. Harris, White, Stevenson, JJ Taylor are just more than they needed and having Sony was a serious waste. The Patriots also have a plethora of DE/Edge guys and it looks like Belichick will be pawning a couple of them off too. We're already hearing rumors up here about guys that could be moved before Sunday's game against the Giants.

Not too shabby for a 7-9 team.

Looking at the details, I don't think so because the 5th year option has to be committed by May 3rd following his 3rd year.

So it's not so much that NE declined, rather the commitment date has passed.
Players who are selected in the first round of the NFL Draft sign four-year rookie contracts with a team option for a fifth year built into the pact. Teams must decide on to pick of a player's fifth-year option following the end of the player's third season but before May 3 of the following league year.

We need to look at this logically though.

He is likely gone in a year unless something incredible happens, however we need a RB, and if he turns out to be a valuable FA, and he walks his value brings us a Comp pick on his FA departure, right?

What did we give up? A comp pick, right?

So that would mean our rental gave us a great season and he didn't cost us anything in the long run, maybe adds the missing piece to a Championship run?

If we don't want him back, he gave us the RB option we needed to be competitive due to the injury bug hitting our RB crew, buying us time until our RB stable becomes healthy.

Let's face it, if he busts, this won't be the first time a 4th rounder didn't pan out for our Rams, and it certainly won't be our last but he brings us what we need now. A lot of upside and a potential comp pick we just may not find on the waiver wire next week. Also he is on the team now and will be ready for Week 1 vs the Bears in a greater way than if we wait for the cuts.

Just found this article on him........

It covers some of the same ground we have already covered, but I really like what I read about him in the Rose Bowl!

And GEEZ!!

After what was already mentioned about this guy in the SB as a Rookie, I gotta say this dude is a gamer in big games!

We gotta love that about him!

Yea Vita. I suppose the dude has lots of upside and I am probably going to watch the Rams extend him if he has a good to great year similar to what Cam could have done in McVay's offense or what Michel did his rookie year. There are always plates of crow to eat if things go south on a number of fronts. LOL!

To answer your question SJ76. The back I thought was in play was the rumored deal the Jets were supposedly putting together that would have brought John Daca back to them in exchange for draft picks or a combination of Josh Adams and a draft pick. Adams is a big bruiser back like at 6'2 240lbs which is what we really need. That deal was only rumored. If our O-line opens holes like the Patriots did in the snooperbowl to get Michel into the endzone, then the rumored deal is pointless at that point.

I am pretty sure if they move Hekker and Rapp, we will get draft picks as return compensation.

Hekker I think is gone. Either via trade or cut by next Monday. Sucks but saving $3 million is huge right now

Josh Adam went undrafted in 2018 I believe and got zero carries in the Jets 2nd preseason game. He got 2 carries for 14 yards in the 1st preseason game. He’s listed as 4th or 5th (maybe 6th) on the Jets RB depth chart. And he’s 6’2 240

Sounds like they could waive him so that would be a good pickup imo

Well SJ76. According to New England fans galore and associated pundits, Michel was considered 3rd or fourth man in a RB stable of five talented dudes. So on some comparison level, we got a running back that might be on Adams' level if Adams played more. But you are right, the Jets could waive Adams and then we could pick him up when he clears waivers. if the dumbass twins bother to do anything.

Two additional transactions I still the Rams should pull-off are the following. The Rapp for Dilliard trade should go down, IMO. Rapp is probably going to get squeezed out of the secondary rotation with all of the stud talent brought in. Guys like Rochelle and Burgess. Rapp also has had injury issues that make him expendable and I believe it would do us good to bring another Number one OL to bolster an aging O-line since we have such an aversion at drafting in the first round.

The other deal is putting another claim in for the ex-Cardinal/Bengal Center, Lamont Gaillard. This guy should be given a look see even though Coleman Shelton is playing really well. Hell, just go ahead already and cut Allen who remains completely useless in my opinion and we will ahve the roster spot all ready.

Trade had to be modified as it violated league policy.

Rams are now sending a 6th rounder in 2022 and a 4th in 2023 for Michel.

That is too much for a 1 year rental.
