Apparently Littleton is endorsing the move of Hager into the starters spot of ILB. Since Kiser is going to be gone for nearly 3/4 of the season, Hager is the logical selection as he is playing pretty darn well. But, the Rams have also moved Patrick inside while expecting him to know outside in the utilitarian fashion of the Rams coaches that do with this multiple-position training with several players on offense and defense. Should be fun to see who finally gets the nod.
Looking at the D it’s the ILBs that kinda scare me. Even Littleton isn’t a beast run stopper. I have to think they bring someone in or make a move like with Dante Fowler and we give someone a 3rd or 4th rounder for a good player after a few weeks into the season.
Unless they really like Hager and the rookie Troy Reeder. Reeder looks and acts the part of an ILB. He blew up the small school combine and plays with an edge.
They are going with Hager and Littleton to start but Reeder and Patrick are much bigger and will see playing time. At some point, both Reeder and Patrick may force Hager back to the STs and Littleton getting starting duty but with heavy substitution.
The run defense was better when Gaines was at the nose then Joseph-Day who got routinely blocked. The worst was on the TD by the Panthers running back who walked-in untouched.
Yea, with Weddle and guys like Matthews, Fowler, AD, Brockers, Rapp, Robey-Coleman, Johnson, Hager, Littleton, and even Patrick, we have become a defense to be reckoned with. Hager is quietly becoming a pretty darn good inside LB and same goes for Littleton.
A couple of glaring problems on defense that require attention. Number one: this defense misses Hager. He has quietly played very well and he makes Littleton better just being in there. Go figure. Two: Marcus Peters should not be given an extension. We should start rotating in Long and other young Corners because the league has discovered that thug boy can routinely get beat especially on the long ball. Talib also is done. His age has caught up with his play and it is time to move him into the coaching realm. Third: The Rans also miss Taylor Rapp. When he gets healed-up get him in there asap. Lastly: Our D Line needs an infusion if youth. That is why the Franklin release was so stupid. Our D once again has become very beatable. Complacency has set in and we are not going win many games until this D starts getting disciplined and very aggressive.
