Why they brought back Emory Blake for the practice squad is beyond me. A stone-cold waste of WR. They now have to make a move to find a roster spot for Keenum. He is smallish and I am not sure what they see in him. I hope they use their heads on this one and don't cut somebody they'll need later for an undersized QB.

I think he is an ok backup option given that he has a little bit of experience but it still looks like the future rams qb will be in next year's draft.

Eh... certainly can't hurt. May as well see what he can do.

Just did a quick bit of research on the guy and admittedly... my interest is piqued.

Career (albeit only 8 games worth) numbers of 137/253 (54.2%), 1760 yards (220 per game), 9 TDs to 6 INTs. He's got an 0-8 record as a starter, though (which means SJ already hates the guy. ). He'll have to catch up with the playbook and receivers, so it's obviously going to be a while before we can even consider seeing Keenum in action (if ever), but it can't be said the guy has zero talent. Also gotta figure Shaun Hill isn't shy about mentoring along young QBs.

This highlight video certainly doesn't create any cause for pause, though. Bearing in mind, of course... it's not called a "highlight" video for nothin'. Lol.

He was awesome at UH!!

Seen a lot of him as the Bruins had a Home and Away in his last two season with the Cougars.

I don't mind the pickup.

What will bother me is if something happens to Hill and they put Keenum in instead of Davis just because he has game experience.

I think Davis keeps getting the short end of the stick. I understood starting Hill because he has experience and the coaches think they can win games with defense, a running game and solid ( if unspectacular ) QB play. But, I think if the season goes south, they need to see if they have something in Davis or not before going into the draft just expecting to need a QB.

Guy is 6'2" and 225 and he has some wheels. He's not just a statue in the pocket. If the season is a loss, I want to see this guy play some games.

Problem is, even if he does play ( and if he plays well ), the sample size will be so small that the Rams will still be looking to draft a QB. That's why I wanted them to start him game 1 and just let him play. But, oh well. Guess we will see how it goes starting Sunday.

Keenum won't be the back-up unless Davis gets hurt...He'll be the 3rd QB...

Not according to this.

4. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the St. Louis Rams claimed former Texans quarterback Case Keenum off waivers, according to a team official. Keenum will serve as the backup behind starter Shaun Hill.

Guy doesn't even know the playbook and he's the backup just because he has game experience?

Memo to Fisher: Davis can't get game experience if you don't play him.

Yep. Davis already knows the system. He can play a little too. I'm not sure that he wouldn't be better than Hill as the starter.

I know Davis is still pretty young (26), but this reminds me a lot of Warner's situation.

You really don't know if the guy has what it takes to play in this league unless you hand him the keys and throw him into the fire.

I'm not saying Davis will be a Warner, but to have Keenum as the backup ahead of Davis just because of game experience is stupid.

I think you might be taking too literally what Rapaport wrote. He's a reporter, not a coach.

But he wouldn't just write that out of his own speculation.

He had to have gotten that from his source.

I think he is probably using the term "the backup" a bit imprecisely. For example, if Hill were to get hurt or really struggle in Week 1 (or even Week 2 or 3), I doubt that Fisher would put Keenum in ahead of Davis.
