I guess he will make more then any other CB this year? He's cashing in! 32m in 2 years

technically 29.9M, but still alot.

he and the Rams still have time to work out a long term deal and bring that number down, but I doubt the number will drop too far.

Johnson, 27, made $13.952 million in 2016 playing under the tag. It was his first season as the Rams' primary cornerback. He had one interception, 57 tackles and 11 passes defensed. He graded out 26th among 112 qualified cornerbacks by Pro Football Focus despite missing a couple of games with an ankle injury.

He made a big leap in 2015 as teams tested him more regularly than in previous seasons. He tied for third in the NFL with seven interceptions and led the team with 12 pass breakups.

In his four NFL seasons, the 6-foot-2 Johnson has 15 interceptions, which ranked fourth in the NFL during that span and the most among players taken in the 2012 draft, where he was selected in the third round.

he's been a solid CB, and I hope the Rams can come to an agreeable contract with him before the deadline.

That is thing, the more experience he gets the better he should get. He has to be doing cartwheels with Phillips at the helm now.

It looks like they won't commit to him long term. They want to see how he does in Phillips system. Snead should offer him a 4 year deal that they can get out of after this season if he doesn't fit the new system.

They wouldn't have franchised him if they thought he couldn't play. Johnson Knows he will get paid if he hits the open market. So unless the Rams give him a ton of guaranteed money and a long term deal he will just make his 17m this year and hit FA next year. Imo its Johnson not liking the Rams offer.

They tagged him because we are very thin at corner and couldn't afford to lose him. Snead screwed the pooch on this by not signing either Johnson or Jenkins long term last year. Not sure how aggressive they'll be in free agency now.

Snead is awful, Tru is not worth the ~17M .

But now the team is being punished because of Snead. He put us in this position with limited assets and limited picks. Now we may not have the money to throw at a big time FA to try to come over. And we don't have a 1st round pick so knowing Snead's draft history we'll be lucky to get one starter out this crop.

We has to draft a CB early, like you said, Snead fucked up and we're light on the position. I do think we could sign one or two CBs for cheaper than Tru producing similar numbers.

and Demoff. Don't forget or minimize Demoff's role in causing the problems.

I guess im the only one that would rather keep McDonald and draft a CB

We have to draft at least one good CB early anyway even after keeping Johnson... If we had let him go, we'd need 2 starters at CB and not just one

Demoff has and will continue to be the screw-up that keeps us in the ways of the Queen idiot and by association the frikin' limp biscuit. If the wilty dope who wants to take credit for discovering Kurt Warner doesn't get it that he needs to get rid of this gopher boy, total jackass who takes the limp biscuit's doping, half-wit ideas and runs them over to Snead who then screws them totally up, then we are never going to get out of this mess as long as the limp biscuit-to-Kevin Demoff chain of command remains intact. UNLESS, McVay is the new Dick Vermeil and he rescues us from these dam fools who wouldn't know anything about football even if you deflated one, rammed it up their collective asses, and then re-inflated it/them!!

Also, since we tagged Johnson and he is going to soak up a goodly portion of our cap space, we'd better get damn good at finding excellent talent in the draft and sign those players while pretty much jettisoning the idea that we are going to attract and sign top FAs this year. Since we now have a supposed all-star group of coaches, we are going to have to draft wisely and train-up our own. WE are not at the level of the Patriots, YET!
