I'd be lying if I said I knew anything about our goaltending prospects, other than what I read here and in the hockey news. I'm curious to see if Jon Merrill can crack our lineup going into camp. With a healthy Tallinder, Zidlicky seems kind of expendable. A D corps of A-Train, Tallinder, Fayne and Larsson as a top 4 doesn't seem too bad. Urbom, Taormina, Greene, and whoever else can battle for the bottom 2.
The NHL is not like the NFL/NBA where the drafts are huge with the big sports media outlets. And the NBA draft only has two rounds. The baseball draft isn't as well publicized but each MLB team has three single A teams, one double A team and one triple A team so it's easy to check on a prospect's progress.
First off we don't have Subban he is availble to draft this year and we MAY take him but it's not for sure at all but I do think if he is available we should take him... him or Wedgewood will be an nhl starter
I still think we should take him even if he has his brothers personality just because he is a goalie and they can get away with being weird and it would be nice to not have it all on 1 guy
Drafting goalies always seems way too risky for me early on in the draft. If a goalie doesn't turn into a legit top 15 he's worthless. If a first round center does't turn into an elite scorer he can still contribute as a depth forward.
I think the toughest thing about drafting a goaltender is that it's tough to evaluate just based solely on talent. I would say most goalies coming up have similar skill sets so the mindset of these guys is what differentiates them. Goaltending more than any other position is all about the mental makeup of the individual which is very difficult to gauge.
