Does Lou give up our 1st rounder in the draft due to the Kovy contract penalty? I believe we still have the choice to do so this year or next and have to give our decision at the end of the season....which is well now.

I think we do since we pick second last and this is probably the best time to do so.
Haven't kept up with the prospects in this year's draft.

I know this is a little hard to talk about after last night but just wondering.

it would seem like the best thing to do......why save it for next year when you can do it now and know it will be a very late 1st rd pick

I would, our position combined with our good scouts make me believe we'll find someone good in later rounds.

Get it done sooner than later.... now's the best of time.

Next question does Parise come back?

It's a deep draft supposedly. Do it now and hope we get 1st round talent in round 2

Get rid of it. I do think we resign Parise. Next question how long into the offseason before Kovy has surgery on his back? Or will our medical staff wait to see how he feels at the start of next season and decide he needs season ending surgery a week in?

I was thinking Lou will decide based off of what his vibe with Parise is. If Parise is looking like he might leave, they might keep this one in an effort to get a potential asset into the pipeline quicker.

I'm not totally surprised, as you said Cup this is supposed to be a relatively deep draft, and Uncle Lou wants to win the cup next season, so he's banking on us picking at 30. haha.

I don't see the pick being much different next year to be honest. I am not saying they are a lock for the finals, but with a deep draft this year I don't think the risk is too great.

Not to mention, I don't think that Lou believes we'll be tanking all the way down to 4th overall again anytime soon.

I didn't realize that we still have two more seasons after this 2013 or 2014 to give it up (according to Fire and Ice). I thought it was this year or next and that was it.

Any pick in the 20s is still about the same risk/reward to be honest. You could get a Bergfors or a Zajac.

well my thinking with it being a deep draft being that some of that talent might slip to the 2nd round. but then on the flip side you might get a stud late in this round as opposed to someone next year at 20 and above

We don't pick until 60th after the first round, that's a long way for first round talent to fall though.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the draft party. thats gotta be a huge money pile for the team and face it no pick no party.

Wouldn't shock me if we moved this pick either. Not sure what we would need but with a couple of older guys on the team that probably don't have a lot left in the tank, and I think the 5th most capspace in the league, this is the offseason to make some moves. We can't get fooled into thinking the exact same roster will repeat what it did last year. We'll need to tweak some things.
