I think you misunderstood my meaning, Harold. Starting as a 1st round rookie is almost a given. What I meant was more about the success as a rookie. Stroud clearly did something special and we will wait and see on Richardson and Young but my point about Love was more about how us picking later will mean if we were to pick a QB, he likely isn't a day 1 starter but more of a guy that will need to sit and learn for a while. I clearly said I wasn't talking the 2-3 year thing like Love but just that we would likely never see the type of impact Stroud had. And very few people thought Stroud would have that kind of impact. We thought he might be the most solid choice but last year's QB class was very weak overall. I'm not sure if trying to trade up for the 1st pick was honestly an option but as you say, Pete had too much say and it likely wasn't even a thought. It's all hindsight though and now we just have to deal with things.
Rookie's are always a gamble ( at all positions in fact), but even if they provide less impact than say Shroud , they provide a cap advantage that is huge. Hear Cousin is seeking 90 million for two years totally guaranteed and that's at 35 coming off achilles surgery, for comparison Love made 4.4 million 2023, forget about Love skills, the financial leg up that was for the Pack is something to love ( pun intended).

Why do you keep bringing Quinn up as if others are arguing that we should hire Quinn?
If culture is the most important thing, isnt quinn the no brainer candidate?

Only if you think the current culture is what we want.

This article really shows the dangers of trading up for a QB. Barnwell lists out the recent major trade ups to the top..

Panthers 2023 - Bryce Young
Niners 2021 - Trey Lance
Jets 2018 - Sam Darnold
Bears 2017 - Trubisky
Titans 2016 - Mariota
Eagles 2016 - Carson Wentz
WTDs 2012 - RGIII

Do they mention the trades up that worked like the Chiefs moving up for Mahomes or the Bills trading up for Josh Allen?

I watched 'some' of the practice yesterday on NFLN. I didn't see Bo Nix much, but Penix looked just like he almost always looks: darts all over the field.

Catching some of the senior bowl practice again right now, and confirming what I thought I saw yesterday: Penix doesn't appear to be wearing the knee brace.

I meant to put a 5 at the end of my sentence. I often make typos as I post while working.
IDK if anyone thinks it is practical to move into top 5 this season From the 16th spot.

Penix looked good to me, but the vibe seemed to be he didn't impress.

Biggest takeaway of Thursday's early practice

We had waited all week for quarterbacks Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr. to look like top-40 draft picks and live up to their hype as potential NFL starters. Well, on Thursday, we got it from both of them.

Nix really stood out, as mentioned earlier, with really good ball placement and much better anticipation when tossing passes to receivers. Penix had arguably the throw of the day with a beautiful jump ball in the end zone to Central Florida’s Javon Baker, and then another dart to Luke McCaffrey in the back of the end zone.

If you watched the morning practice today, Nix and Penix looked like real-deal NFL starters. I'm walking away believing both could be starting games next year in the pros. I have Nix in the Round 1 mix, and Penix is right behind him in the early parts of Day 2. -- Miller

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix has been sharper on Day 3, showcasing the soft touch and accuracy that allowed him to throw 45 touchdown passes to just three interceptions this season. An AFC area scout also told me that Nix was the best interview he had sat in all week.

Nix was shaky to start the week of practices, as he acclimated to new coaches and new wide receivers, but he’s building momentum heading into the weekend. He was compared to Jared Goff by an AFC quarterbacks coach I spoke to this week, and a top-15 draft pick is not out of the question. -- Miller

Listening to a podcast and Randy Mueller was saying he thinks Penix goes Top 15. Also says that teams shouldn't sleep on McCarthy.

I've heard too 15 for Penix also from some folks, but it's all a guess especially this early. I've seen mocks where both Penix and Nix go ahead of the Seahawks pick.

On the plus side, if 5 Qbs go ahead of us somebody with value is dropping.
