On a serious note, I read the article... Vermont has a minor league baseball team??? When did their youth find the time to get their ski sticks out of their asses and have a catch with their dads?

Just reminding all the posters of the recent discussion supported by a poster who strongly suggests that the trades recently completed were primarily good ones that will lead to a better baseball club in the future.

With a larger pool of prospects, there is a better chance of that happening. Of course, never a guarantee.

Well when you get guys that don't know how to play the sport...

Jorge Alfaro, C, Philadelphia Phillies Hamels Trade (TEX) - Ultra-toolsy catcher has had little feel for the game

Nick Williams, LF, Philadelphia Phillies Hamels Trade (TEX) - Ulta-toolsy left fielder had little feel for the game

Those chances you refer to are based on a higher number of players. Seriously? You are suggesting that getting a bunch of prospects increases the chances of one or two being really a good player and that should be a leading factor that determines trades?

Not just quantity of prospects...of course, it goes without saying, quality is most important.

Yeah these guys are trying to sell us that "lots of shitty prospects = good major league players." bullfuckinshit

We can draft our own crappy prospects. No need to give up Hamels for them.

Yes. More appropriate. Can't understand why _phillies_ likes it.

the phils took harrison and his contract so they could get a bigger prospect return. they are spending their money, which doesn't affect current or future payroll whatsoever, to make sure they are acquiring more talent.

i don't understand why some of you people are focusing on harrison as if the phils wanted him, and we acquired him based on his playing ability. taking his contract most likely aided greatly in the addition of one of the big three (thompson/alfaro/williams.)

but instead of just giving them cash, it doesn't hurt to take harrison. even though the chances are very small, maybe he can pitch some time in the future and be effective. if not, again.. it was just giving the rangers cash relief in exchange for another prospect.

and i hate to sound like a broken record, but this stuff should be common sense. if you don't understand what's going on, it's pointless to rant about it.

_phillies_ We are not ranting. We like discussing the back and forth and can learn something from both idiots and intellectuals.

We are still responsible for the rest of his contract, $26.4M over two years. '18 is complicated. Being dumb, I'll just copy this from baseball ref. - "$13.25M Team Option, $2M Buyout 2018 option guaranteed with 200 IP in each season 2015-17." He has chronic back problems. It's not something that even faith healers can fix.

You may be right about the do it or else type of thing to get prospects but I hate it.

It's fucken pin the tail on the donkey.

And the Phillies front office (including but not limited to _phillies_ lover Amaro) is holding the pin backwards.
