I think they gained $3M in cap space this year from McCoy.

Depending on where you look we have between $6M and $8M in cap space right now. Ideally we roll it all into next year for when the cap drops, but if the right deal comes along for a guy like Snacks I think you jump at it. This could be the type of year where anyone could win it with some luck.

God I hope this is true, but 2 things stand out to me

1) From what I have read, McCarthy has yet to give anything other than incredibly glowing reviews for everyone and everything. I'm starting to not take anything he says seriously.

2) He hasn't yet had the luxury of watching Trystan Hill in live action ending up on the ground on half of the plays and pushed back to the 2nd or 3rd level on the other half

Yup. If he plays like a 2nd round pick it totally changes this defense. His skillset is supposed to be a penetrator form the 3 tech. Having that would take us to another level. But, I just can't get passed what I saw last year. Guys improve, guys get stronger, guys learn the game, but he was just so horrible that it would be miraculous to see him play at that level

Just seems like non-stop health issues for Smith. It's just too hard to count on this guy being healthy for a full season

until we actually see these players on the field all we can do is hope that what McCarthy and his coaches are seeing and saying are fact. will we be disappointed? probably but that's the nature of the game

I just read this, and was gonna post it. CowboysNation mentions cap space for next season and Dak. That was my first thought too.

That would be the sensible approach... and the one I would take as well. Not clogging up next year’s already shrunken cap space with another big deal. QB1 is the deal.
