Unlike Howard, I really don't see any type of improvement forthcoming. I think his defense continues to worsen, and his power and speed will continue to diminish. Rollins never drew walks, and he never hit for a particularly high average, so it's hard for him to contribute offensively when he only hits 5 home runs and steal 20 bags a year.

(Not so) bold prediction: Rollins moves down to the 8 spot in the lineup by May, and finishes the season with a .225 average.

.240 batting average. OPS about the same as last year. Around .660.

What about Cole Hamels? Is there any chance he bounces back to be a decent pitcher again. I see he turned 30 today...Happy Birthday. Now that he's an old man (young in Phillie years though) he can reflect back on his career and dream of what could have been for him. I think there's still time for him to rebound and I'm sure the Phillies who are still on the hook for $112M over the last 5 years of his contract hope he has something left and his contract doesn't turn into another disaster for them.
At least he's a lefty and there are always teams willing to overpay for a left-handed starter. I know he has a relatively low number, 99, of Wins at age 30 versus say a Catfish Hunter with 202 or even a C.C. Sabathia with 171 but the Phillies could get something in return or at least free up some cash.

If we were trying to move Hamels, I doubt a team wouldn't trade for him because he only has 99 wins LOL.

Jrol averaged 150 hits the last 3 years and .250 in that time. A .250 switch hitter behind Revere ain't the end. No, he won't be moved to the back of the lineup despite a .318 OBP. The Phillies can "carry" a .250 hitter who plays a better than average ss for sure. Yeah, I told him to go fuck himself many times this past season when he launched a pop with runners on, but he still did .310 with runners on and .291 with risp. I am confident Ryno will influence his butt unlike his past amiable lover, Charlie. In fact, with the better and healthy lineup next year, Jrol will score 80 runs. Phreakin bank on it you uneasy phans. Write that down. Keep the phaith and drink up! Happy New Year!

Hopefully Rollins has a better year than last year. I think he may. You wouldn't think he could do much worse. But I wouldn't put any of his success or failure in 2014 on Ryne Sandberg. Also, he was good for most of those years with Manuel. Sorry Charlie doesn't have a fucking time machine for some of these players.

i would certainly hope he can do better. his 6 homers were pitiful and a career low. same guy that hit 23 the year before. he did finally come around in september with a .292 average and .797 ops.. so maybe he figured out what his problem was.

Lolwut? Hamels had a 106 ERA+ through 220 IP. And that was with one of the worst defenses in the league behind him. Along with a 1.16 WHIP and 4.04 K/BB, I'd certainly say he had a decent year.

And lol @ Catfish Hunter, he's probably the most overrated pitcher of all-time (him or Jack Morris). His ERA is only 0.12 runs better than Hamels... and that's not even accounting for the enormous difference in run environments. Hamels has like 1900 fewer IP and he almost has more career WAR already (Hamels has 33.8 in 1596.2 IP, Catfish has 36.6 in 3449.1 IP). Catfish was a good pitcher (and he had a couple of great years, especially 72, 74-75), but he falls below HOF standards.

Bro, ERA+? WHIP? K/BB ratio? If you judged Hamels by the only three stats that matter for a pitcher, W-L, ERA, and QS, you would know he is just an average pitcher.

http://www.sportshoopla.com/forums/...ussion/132601-3-best-stats-judge-pitcher.html

I couldn't get the link to work but I don't think those 3 are set in stone anywhere. Personally I go by
Best Hair
Wife's performance on a goofy reality show
Times hitting Bryce Harper for no apparent reason.

So in my eyes, Cole is Hall of fame material, even if he never played another game.

25 of the Phillies 91 QSs is damn good. His ERA was too high at 3.60 but he could easily have maybe 5 more wins to be 13-9 if they just scored more runs for him.

Oh boy...

Oh boy...

You know Lee had 24 QSs. Hamels with 25 meant that the Phils had a solid 1-2 starting staff. When you look at Hamels' game log, you can see that he had a terrific year despite the high ERA.

1. 12 of Hamels QSs were Phils' wins - he won 8 but had No Decisions on 4.
2. 13 of Hamels QSs were Phils' losses - he lost 7 and had No Decisions on 6. 8 games were low scores he could have won - two 2-0 losses, three 2-1 losses, two 3-2 losses). Poor BP and run support are the factors.
3. Hamels did not pitch well in 7 games the Phils lost and he took the loss in all 7.
4. Hamels had 7 of the Phils' 27 1-run losses.

Therefore Hamels got screwed in 2013. His record will reverse in 2014 if he's on again, and the BP and hitting improve which I think will happen.
