i can't get to the link. what does he say? first, I thought it was noisy, so i didn't understand why we weren't using the silent count the whole game anyway. second, I believe it's illegal for the defense to simulate cadance or anything like that, so MSU was clapping, the refs should have been all over that. it took me a long time but I finally found the rule

Rule 7, Section 1, Article 5:
3. No player shall use words or signals that disconcert opponents when
they are preparing to put the ball in play. No player may call defensive
signals that simulate the sound or cadence of (or otherwise interfere
with) offensive starting signals.

Basically that they were clapping to make us snap the ball early. Dantonio says that they were using claps to change their defensive formation. Pelini is gonna have the B1G office look at it.

As to the silent count, I don't think it was that noisy. In fact, Dantonio was mad at their fans about it.

Bo shouldn't be complaining about anything MSU did. After all, them taking their foot off of our throats is the only reason we had a chance.

It's time to point the thumb, not the finger, Bo. And I don't mean the usual point the thumb over your shoulder at all the players.

I was really bored, so decided to do some print screens of the game and problems we had.

1st O play of the game. they have 10 in the box, we have 10 in the box, but it's not read option. Our O-line got no push. the jet sweep motion did nothing for us.
Play 1.JPG

2nd O play of the game. again straight handoff. looks well blocked here, (i should have done a screen grab 0.5 sec later) at the top on the 30 line is cotton taking on LB 43, who blows him backwards 2 yds and fills up the hole, Ameer tries his best to bounce it out, but it's too late. also, look at the bottom, if that was playaction, and you have that TE (i think that's the other cotton) run a crossing route, that's a good gainer.
play 2.JPG

3rd down play on our 2nd drive. MSU rushed 2 guys on this play. 2 guys. i did multiple screen shots to show the completely horrible job our O-line did. I believe Sterup at RT didn't even get out of his stance. Then after 43 blazes past him, he turns around and looks for someone else to block, instead of at least making an attempt to catch up to the guy.

i went back and grabbed that endzone shot of play 3 again. I think Tommy needs to just throw it out towards the WR on the right here, even if that WR isn't looking. That would have at least saved the sack. I mean he's uncovered at this point right here.

a few more:

2nd and 1 play in the 2nd Q. Read Option. we have 7 blockers, they have 9 guys in the box. would have liked to have seen our TE on the top run to the Umpire on the left and hit him on the playaction. instead stop for no gain.
play 4.JPG

3rd and 1, the very next play. Read Option again. we only have 6 blockers, they have 7 in the box. Ameer manages to get 2 yds and the 1st down, but again if we had done playaction, TE at the bottom of our line running a simple straight route, a simple dink and dump play, it could have been a huge gainer because they have no one in that space.
play 5.JPG

if you recall we got a penalty after the previous 1st down so we ended up back further. this the 2nd down play. It's a playaction pass. I show this, because look at the LBs, they stayed back. how's that possible? we had to have tipped off something about it being a pass. My best guess is the o-line blocking, it wasn't forward, but backwards/sideways. I understand you don't want an illegal lineman downfield, but you either have to disguise your run plays better or do playaction just like a run.

also, this was that wheel route to ameer, a match up we wanted but was covered well and Tommy should have either looked elsewhere or ran it.

two more and then I'm done.

just another look at a straight run play, MSU with basically 8 in the box to our 7 blockers. Looks to me like a Tommy bootleg would be a decent play to add if teams are going to play us like this.
play 7.JPG

Last is me both eating a little crow and saying how right I was. I guess we did run 1 play out of the Diamond Formation. Ameer is left of Tommy. We fake the sweep to that side and Ameer sneaks across the formation for a pass, 13 or so yds later ameer is brought down. I also think the run was there, especially if the left back is blocking and not taking off for a pass like Ameer did.

Yea, he's also still dropping back at that point though. Hasn't even planted his feet yet and already the dude is right in his grill.

They knew Nebraska's snap counts. They knew the delays between the claps and the snaps. You can see the same delays from when Tommy claps and when #43 from Michigan St claps.

They likely had someone up in the booth tracking the timing of #43's clap to when Pelini's nephew snapped the ball. If Nebraska changes the delay, have 43 clap again and figure out the new delay.

Like irule said, "Proof that our team is just stupid".

Call Dantonio a cheater if you will, but it was ingenious.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nebraska doesn't change the clap cadence from week to week.

That's probably how dumb they really are. :L

Back in my day if you wanted to play QB you needed to be able to yell.

If I would have clapped my coach would have kicked my ass.

TA has bad "vision"

I really don't agree with that.

We have such a small sample of games to test that theory against right now, but from what I've seen Tommy has been great in making his reads all season. At MSU, however, there was a definite point made by the coaching staff to stick with Ameer.

As far as vision in the passing game, I just simply think Tommy hasn't been tested by any corners yet like he was at MSU. He had guys breaking on passes like he has never seen before. That experience, and going back and looking at the game film, is going to do wonders for him moving forward.

He has all the tools to be a great QB. We are just expecting a lot out of a Sophomore is all.

Here's the thing......if Tommy ends up throwing a TD pass there at the end of the game instead of an interception, we're all going to be sitting here smoking up a completely different pipe.

As fans, we tend to weigh in more on the outcome than the body of work. Tommy has made better decisions all season than any QB Bo has had since Ganz. He got rattled in his first real test as a starting QB and now suddenly his entire body of work is thrown under the bus.

We just want to win. Tommy Frazier was completing 47% of his passes, but he was winning so we didn't care. It will come with time. I'm mostly impressed with Tommy's competitive edge. He wants to win games and he has made that known. He wants another shot at MSU and he has made that known. A real winner gets knocked on his ass and then gets right up and asks for the same challenge.

These are the same things that was said about Taylor Martinez. He was probably the biggest gamer we had on the team. Nobody wanted to win more then him and OI believe both him and Armstrong had/have the natural talent to be good if not great qbs

Unfortunately without coaching the natural talent fades and promise becomes desperation.

what are you :smokin:.

Tommy's "vision" in the passing game is horrible. We've been saying that all year. He locks onto 1 target and hardly ever goes through progressions. Against MSU, there were multiple times he missed wide open receivers because he was hell bent on throwing to 1 particular guy. and it wasn't just because he was under pressure.

I really wish I could find a video replay that shows the whole field, I looked all over yesterday and couldn't find one. Maybe I'll try again today.

and maybe some other folks would be praising Tommy if we won there, but I'd still be making these same comments because I do look at the entire game and for 3Qs we was horrible.

First of all, Tommy has not been horrible all season in the passing game. Let's just clear that up right away.

Second of all, against Michigan State he didn't go through his progressions......that is for damn sure. Impossible to go through your progressions, however, with no pass protection.

And finally, I rewatched the game and our receivers were blanketed the entire game. This was mostly due to predictable play calling, but has a tid bit to do with the fact that MSU is just really good Defensively.

What Tommy needs to work on is timing.

His interceptions this year have been almost entirely due to timing issues and he had one against Illinois that he just held on to way too long and made a poor decision throwing it over the middle into traffic.

These things will improve with time. He's just a young buck.
