Here you go - here are the QBs by salary. If you paid Cousins $5M / yr you would be putting him in the Hoyer, McCown, Sanchez territory - that is an insult since most of these guys are either backups or should be backups.
Sure Cousins doesn't deserve to be in the top tier making $20M+ /yr. However - assuming a decent amt of success for the remainder of the season - he deserves a lot more than to be say the 30th highest paid QB in the NFL. The numbers that some are suggesting would have been appropriate perhaps for last offseason when there were more unknowns.
