Give me a fucking break!

I'm all for increased police presence, but it should be uniformed. If and when there are problems, there should be less targets and more uniformed cops to turn to. I understand the fear factor that they are trying to enforce, but IMO the ends dont justify the means and the cant-hold-your-alky, testosterone driven, tough guy element doesn't know or care about this program.

This disgusts me...

Though these guys will be easy to spot..... They will be the dudes in the niners jerseys rooting for the Seahawks.

That's funny most will be over weight and have cheap haircuts aside from the bike cops some of them are pretty buff.

Gotta say this is great and should be done at every rivalry game. I made the mistake of getting my dad tickets to the game last year. Expensive tickets thinking most that paid for lower level would have better heads than to try to start fight. Obviously the late/flexed start (more drinking time) coupled with the lop sided victory left many taking it too far. Wearing opposing teams gear u expect to get some razzing, u also expect to be able to enjoy the game. I shouldn't have to worry about people starting fights, throwing stuff, or being so drunk that they only create problems. Unfortunately that didn't happen as I had to deal with all those things while trying to let my over 60 year old father enjoy the game. I did have some positive interactions with fans during the game, but were over shadowed by the negative. Btw this goes for all team fans not just Seahawks, fans need to realize they are just fans. Cheer, boo, leave others the hell alone. I was surprised at the amount of Niner gear I saw that night. I think the cops can intervene easier by seeing how people act when they believe nobody is watching. After all, u can only have so many uniform police, a lot goes unseen.

Could not disagree more. You can always have more uniformed police. What really is going to go unseen depending on whether a cop is wearing his blues or wearing his niner jersey? Maybe things like smoking a joint or filling your flask, but violence can be prevented with uniformed presence much more effectively than this tactic. More may be unseen with more uniformed presence simply because people are less likely to do something like take a swing on someone, that's a good thing. Instead of worrying about catching the bad guy after he hurts someone, how about we just give him more reasons not to hurt someone. Their goal should be to prevent, then intervene. Not just intervene.

I think people sometimes forget that these are games. We all care about these games a great deal obviously, but if you can't even go into a stadium/ballpark/arena in another city to root for your team without fearing for your life or you forget, as a visitor, where you are and decide you want to take on a whole section because they are rooting for their home team, it's a problem. Talking a little trash isn't the problem here, it's when people decide to escalate things to include violence that it becomes an issue worth addressing. They may not be addressing it the way that you would prefer they address it, but if it keeps people from beating the snot out of each other, it's worth trying.

You are right that in a perfect world we would have enough uniform presence to make people think twice about how they act knowing one is always there. Unfortunately in a stadium that hold 67,000 people that becomes impossible. Whether it is from a actually manpower from the police perspective, or just all the nooks and crannies of where altercations happen. The undercover police still prevent, by letting uniformed police know to come around the area, or intervene by letting the problem fans know they are police (showing credentials ect.) If you aren't causing problems you don't have to worry about whether the guy next to you is an officer or not. Another thing, those officers walking around in uniform and undercover are working part time gigs, as in extra shift beyond their normal money. They don't want to have to take action. They would much rather people watch the game and go home so they can get paid without working hard (like most). If you are smoking a joint in the middle of the stadium thinking you won't get caught you are an idiot. A flask is probably not on their radar as the biggest bust, so don't be so obvious about it and 99% of the time you are probably fine. Bottom line is that because uniform presence isn't always feasible, the undercover are the next best option.

You made some great points. From what I've read, there will be 50-60 EXTRA police in this game. IMO, having them in uniform makes more sense than not. I just have a hard time believing that having 50 guys dressed like niner fans is any more effective than 50 uniformed cops in deterring violence.

And this Seattle, people smoke joints everywhere.

There is going to be far more Police presence than last year i am sure of that and i bet there will be little incidents in or around the stadium.

While I'll disagree with hoping some dumbass gigner try to start shit, the line about getting the harbaugh smacked out of them is funny as hell.

:laugh3:.. Living in a state that weed is still illegal that is still hard to imagine. Anyways hopefully the added police presence will reduce incidents. I do have my doubts, just because it being a late Sunday game again, and the hype developed this off season. BTW side note, stadium was the loudest I've ever been to, but I'm sure that comes as no shock to you guys.

Gee Ninerfan from your comments you make it seem as though Seattle is worst than the Bay area when it comes to rowdy fans.

I lived in Palo Alto for four years and went to many games and saw all kinds of stuff i rarely see in Seattle even during the KingDome day's and there was far more rough stuff going on in the Dome compared to Clink from i have seen so far.

Wasnt a Cowboy fan stabbed to death at Candlestick last year?

Edit i guess he lived, but still.

First home game since weed was legalized. That alone ought to take the threat of violence down a notch!

I've been to several games at the clink and I've never seen any out of control violence. Granted I can't observe the behavior of all 67,000 people individually but I'm not aware of our stadium being a particularly violent one. The only violence I've witnessed at a game first hand was caused by a Raiders fan but that was at the Kingdome.

You'd have to be rich or a severe lightweight to get hammered at a game with those beer prices anyway.

Where was this info announced? I personally have never taken a sporting event serious enough to want to punch someone, but I understand it happens. Perhaps just leaking this info the public will prevent some scuffles, and that might be whole idea. I'd be less likely to want to start a fight with someone if I thought there was a chance he was a cop...

personally im for having this done at EVERY NFL game, i know what it feels like to be heckled at for being a visitor on a away game and it gets very uncomfortable, they should be doing this at the 49ers vs seahawk game in san fran as well. Im all about chanting your teams name while walking out into the parking lot after the game but some people like to take it a step more (probably from drinking and testosterone like previously mentioned) and harrass visitors. im sure the police are there to make sure fights dont start i dont care if it is a seahawk fan that gets escorted out, people should only go to games and cheer their team not harrass the opposing fans.

Doublegive, it does not always have to be a Seattle vs San Fran scenario. It should be a decent fan vs idiot fan scenario. I have no doubt that there are idiot 49er fans in San Fran. I even made mention in my original post how my comments about more police presence at stadiums weren't exclusive to Seattle. I can only speak from my experience in San Fran (wasn't a division game so I didn't see a lot of people getting stupid) D.C. Again not division game so people didn't act dumb towards me(plus skins weren't good that year), and Atlanta niners were winning most of the game and lost on last second field goal so shit talking on way out, as to be expected, but not much during the game. And Seattle, which obviously the experience was different for the many reasons already talked about.

My experience at the clink ( limited for sure) was security every where. For sure the security can not be in every nook and cranny , but they sure are noticeable everywhere. Not sure why they would dress up as 49ers fans, sounds iffy to me...hoping to entrap some one..not sure about the why this helps.

That being said I remember a Card fan from the ESPN coming here to see a game and having a scary encounter in the rest room. I guess it can happen even in the friendly NW.

:gaah:.. I hate how people try to call out entrapment just because they know the term, but not exactly the meaning.(sorry pet peeve of mine) Having undercover officers walk around is not entrapment at all. Entrapment would be if undercover officers put the idea in unassuming citizens heads. Such as walking up to a group and trying to convince them to go jump a guy, then arresting the group. That would be entrapment, simply walking around monitoring crowds and interacting with people would not qualify.

And it definitely can happen anywhere, passion + alcohol + testosterone often leads to bad decisions. People of fail to think that at the end of the day if you or I get lose our jobs for fighting at a football game, would Kap or Wilson will help us out?
