personally im for having this done at EVERY NFL game, i know what it feels like to be heckled at for being a visitor on a away game and it gets very uncomfortable, they should be doing this at the 49ers vs seahawk game in san fran as well. Im all about chanting your teams name while walking out into the parking lot after the game but some people like to take it a step more (probably from drinking and testosterone like previously mentioned) and harrass visitors. im sure the police are there to make sure fights dont start i dont care if it is a seahawk fan that gets escorted out, people should only go to games and cheer their team not harrass the opposing fans.

:agree:

I'm also a SF Giants fan living in LA now. Anytime you have a rivalry game, there is a penchant for emotions to ride high and extra police should def be mandatory in order to keep the public safe.

To me, there are just more important things to get angry about than your favorite football team losing a game or having a fan of a rival team cheering for his team or booing yours in your stadium. I love my teams and I get frustrated when they lose, but I don't think I've ever been driven to anger because of it. Sports are a big part of my life and if I ever reached a point where it made me angry enough to pick a fight with someone over it, I think that would be my cue to cut back.

Give me a fucking break!

I'm all for increased police presence, but it should be uniformed.

It "should" be uniformed? How 'bout this: don't be a jackass and attack people or throw things at 'em. If you do, you're an idiot and you're going to jail. I'm all for the police enforcing that however they want.

Me too. But how about we give them more reasons to think twice about doing it rather than simply enforcing it after the fact?

:gaah:.. I hate how people try to call out entrapment just because they know the term, but not exactly the meaning.(sorry pet peeve of mine) Having undercover officers walk around is not entrapment at all. Entrapment would be if undercover officers put the idea in unassuming citizens heads. Such as walking up to a group and trying to convince them to go jump a guy, then arresting the group. That would be entrapment, simply walking around monitoring crowds and interacting with people would not qualify.

And it definitely can happen anywhere, passion + alcohol + testosterone often leads to bad decisions. People of fail to think that at the end of the day if you or I get lose our jobs for fighting at a football game, would Kap or Wilson will help us out?

Its not entrapment.

Its preparing to be reactive rather than being preventative. Preventing people from being hurt > catching people that hurt others.

I'm sure there are uniformed police officers and security guards at the game as well.

Also, putting it out there that police officers are wearing Niner gear gives dumbasses a heads up not to start crap with people just because they're wearing 49er gear. It's actually a really smart move, and I hope there are under cover police officers wearing road-team gear at every game (including 49er games and ESPECIALLY Raider games).

Lets say youre in the Ivars line at the Clink and out of nowhere you get cheap shotted by some asshole and he gives you a serious concussion..... Luckily there is an SPD officer wearing a niners jersey that was watching the Ivars stand so the guy is arrested right away and justice can be served. Thats great, and thats what this whole strategy is about. But if that cop had been in uniform, he still could have reacted just the same if he needed to, but if the tough guy would have seen the uniformesld cop keeping an on the Ivars stand he probably doesnt throw the punch in the first place.

I don't think this is even needed at the Clink. We talk a lot of shit in Seattle but we don't take it to the level of the thugs in the bay (SF and Oakland included) where there are stories of opposing fans being shot at and stabbed.

We're smart enough to know it's just a game and that shit talking is just part of the fan experience. I'll be happy to show anyone, cop or SF fan, in 9er gear what I think Sunday.

just stupid if you ask me. more uniform cops stop the heckling, More 49er fans could very well CAUSE it. This is like entrapment, like those shows that have all the female cops dressed up as hookers. You know that most of those men get off scott free? Setting people up to catch them red handed that might not have did anything had you NOT set them up is BS. Just put them in their uniform and nothing will happen plain and simple. Why try and catch someone that very well wouldn't have did anything had a Seattle police officer not been in a 49er shirt being a dick. Just so those out of towners know, Seattle cops are DICKS.

I say this, if you are a Niner fan, don't grow balls because you feel like you got back-up or you will be spending the night in Seattle, and for us Hawks fans, just be ourselves. As far as Fans in Stadiums go we are not as bad as 90% of the NFL. I very well might be on the field and could very well see these cops before the game in their "49er gear" I will have a white board about 24-36 inches in size that i will use for signs and cheering during the game. I will also write down the numbers of the jerseys the Cops have on with the words COP!! above it so keep an eye out at each endzone. If i do get to go ( please please please ) i have no problems helping out our fellow Seahawks fans spot the imposters :D

GO HAWKS.

Oh someone asked how i got field tickets earlier this week. i did not, my wife has them because she works at the Vmac.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's all or at least partially BS.

Putting the idea in people's heads that anyone in 9er gear might be a cop will probably nip any potential problems in the bud right there.
However this conversation has veered in such a way to suggest that the Clink is an inherently violent place and not safe for visiting fans. That's not how it is! Fans of opposing teams have to expect a little ribbing but that's true of any and all NFL stadiums. And like every other NFL stadium out there, there's always the chance of running into a drunk moron who takes things too far but that's not the norm in the Clink from my experience.

So let me get this straight. You think it is a bad idea because the Niner gear COMPELS people to act like assholes where they otherwise wouldn't? That's some of the dumbest shit I've read on this thread. How about acting like a civil human being so there won't be any cause for concern.

And for the record, I believe this should happen at EVERY stadium, this is not a SF vs SEA thing in my mind. The level of hostility at stadiums now is dangerously high and gets worse with every passing year. In addition to cops in uniforms, I agree and love the idea of undercovers as well. How any respectful fan can dispute this as anything other then a good idea is beyond me.

Undercover cops catch people that do stupid shit. Uniformed police prevent people from doing stupid shit.

Prevention is paramount for sure. But you aren't going to prevent everything and eventually something will go down. I don't have any issue with SFPD dressing up in SEA gear for Niner games as I see the need in addition to cops in uniform. My brother is a cop in the Bay Area and sometimes has to work both Raider and Niner games, although because he's Alameda Co. Sheriffs, he works mainly Raider games. He thinks this is a great idea and believes it acts like a deterrent. He was part of the sting last season Niners vs. GB and he said not only were there less fights, but they were able to game plan better survellience strategies for the future.

Exactly, people are going to be made aware that cop's will be dressed as Niner's it is akin to undercover buyers in an area, you do not know if you are selling to a cop,so people will think twice about starting something.

Prevention should be paramount.

Prevention IS paramount. By announcing that under cover cops will be in 49er gear, that IS preventing dumbasses from starting fights with people in 49er gear.

It's really weird how you have a problem with this.

I'm not saying that it's not effective. I'm saying that it's not MORE EFFECTIVE than those 50 cops providing a transparent police presence.

Read my Ivars scenario and tell me if that you were you, would you prefer the cop in the jersey being there to help or the uniformed cop being there to prevent?

We know about this because we're hard core fans. The truly troublesome element will not know and if they do will be too drunk to care.
