I think it's a foregone conclusion that Claude Giroux will lead the team in scoring this coming season, but will he improve on his recent 76 point campaign and if so, by how much?

We've seen him grow leaps and bounds over the past two seasons and suddenly with the trading of Carter and Richards, you have to think he's been handed the reins offensively and will be our top guy in all situations (as if he wasn't already), especially on the power play. But, will he continue to kill penalties or not? Will our power play get back to form? Will he mesh with his new linemates? All of this factors in.

i'm goin with 80-89.. modest improvement on already good numbers.. i actually think briere is going to lead the team in scoring though

i just want the team to stay healthy.. up front if briere or giroux goes down the flyers are in a very tight spot IMO.. i think those 2 are more important than anyone on the back end staying healthy (*hint hint)

Well, predicting Briere to score more goals than Giroux doesn't surprise me, but points? Yes, a lot. When I say lead the team in scoring, I'm talking points.

I probably could've given more options as far as answers are concerned, but there's nothing better to do at this time of year, so we might as well dabble in silly shit like this poll.

I don't want to influence the poll or anything (for what it's worth) by saying this, but I feel like Giroux is going to absolutely kill it this coming season and establish himself as a truly elite player (top ten in the Nhl).

i hope he does.. believe me, i got his jersey hoping that will be the case.. i'm just feelin briere bustin out this year.. and i was talking points also.. just goal scoring i think briere has it by a good margin

i think the top 3 will be giroux, jvr, and briere.. i'm also feeling a huge year for jvr haha

i think simmonds, jagr, and voracek will all have good years too.. i dont have enormous expectations for schenn, and i think pretty much all the other forwards after that will be useless as far as points go (hartnell, talbot, nodl, betts, shitty, etc.)

and what are you doing awake dude.. its 330am where you are!

<--- has really high expectations and is concerned about the team letting him down haha

I think that with the town drunks being shipped out, most teams will key directly on Giroux and JVR and they will struggle at times fighting through that thus curtailing his/their overall point total(s).

80 pts tops is my .02.

Yea I am feeling at best 30 goals, 45 assists. They will get shut down at times by other teams top defensive lines so like it was pointed out earlier, one huge key is to get the younger guys to contribute.

Oh and I see Briere leading this team in points, hands down. Ignore the avi.

Hmmm...I don't know about that. I'll say they're just as important as Pronger but not more.

wahoo!

close enough for me :)

lol And I only say that because I think our defense has to be healthy this year for the Flyers to have any chance.

i think giroux will stay around 50 assists like last season and chip in a few more goals..
i'll say 30 G and 50 A for 80 pts.. pretty respectable numbers for a 23 year old 3rd year player (well 3rd full year)

Well, I work nights and I can usually be here at work, so 3:30 am is not unusual for me.

It's true that Giroux may see the top shutdown players, but he led the team in points last season and I'm sure he saw a ton of that then with Carter on his line. It shouldn't be much of anything new for him. His high level of skill is evident everywhere on the ice though. I don't know if Briere is capable of 90 points again, but I definitely think Giroux is.

Again, I sort of wish I had more choices in this poll, but it still gets us talking, so fuck it.

i think health across the board is going to be key, as it normally is, but this year especially

IMO the flyers have more depth on defense and therefore could afford an injury on the back end better than one up front

kind of comparing apples to oranges but i'd rather have gust, bart, or marshall come in as an emergency call up then wellwood, holmstrom, or read (if its a top 6 or top 2 pair guy that goes down)

I think the biggest contributor to Giroux's point total will be his line mates and what sort of PP time he gets.

If he's the on the 1st PP unit I expect 30 points out of him from there alone. If he plays with JVR and either Vorachek or Schenn I think he'll put up 55+ points even strength. He's easily capable of a PPG, in fact he's capable of a lot more but I'm not sure if he's ready to take that huge of a step and be one of the elite offensive players in the league yet(like Jumbo Joe his first 2 years in SJ).

i think jagr takes the 3rd spot on their line.. i think voracek is closer to being leino's replacement.. JMO

It may be unrealistic but I'm hoping Schenn makes the team and gets moved to wing on the Giroux JVR line and Jagr gets put on the 3rd and then brought out on the top PP unit. I'm just not sure Jagr has enough left in the tank to play 18 minutes a game for 82 games and then be competitive in the playoffs. I see him as being a huge contributor on the PP this year though.

I do agree with Vorachek replacing Leino being the most likely scenario for him.

i definitely see your point on jagr.. expecting him to play 18 minutes for 82 games is probably a stretch.. i just think he'll add the offensive pop the team will need from that line.. i'm real excited to see schenn out there, i'm just not sure in his rookie season he'll provide the pop they need.. i'd be ok with giving him the shot though.. have talbot center the 3rd line.. only problem is i think it's probably a waste to play jagr with simmonds and talbot.. they probably didn't pay him 3 mil to play on the 3rd line

I believe that Giroux and JVR will both net 30 this year. It will be the first year that they will both be seeing big minutes and consistent PP time. Scheen reminds me of Richie in a lot of ways, but he seems to have a bit better scoring touch. That being said Jagr is a PP specialist so it makes little to no sense to burn him out playing big even strength minutes when his production may not be there due to losing a few steps over the years. As far as his salary goes we did pay Zherdev 2 mill to sit in the press box or play on the 4th line most of the season, but I fully believe Jagr is getting paid to help the PP out this year.
