Growing up, all I would hear from Dodger fans (I think Fresno was equally split between Giants and Dodgers in the 80s and 90s) is "Who won the World Series last?", "Who's won more titles since moving to the West Coast?" and "Wait, when did the Giants last win a World Series?" It got so annoying. And it was always them that initiated the taunting. They didn't need any statement from me to get going. They just needed to know I was a Giants' fan. Its so nice to not have to hear two of those three. They still hold on to the "most titles since the West Coast move" though.

YAY Doggies Lose!!!!!! :D UGH Sox Win ....... But Wait DOGGIES LOSE!!!!!!!!!!!:D:nod::yes::thumb:
The Red Sox have become the team with the most World Series titles since the turn of the century now. I don't dislike them but they are not going to be the team I'd root for in the AL . . . unless they are playing the Yankees. If the Yankees don't win a title for 100 years, it would be too soon. They have way too many. Let some other teams catch up.

I really thought the doyers would win this year, since the last time they won the Worst President Ever (Ronnie Ray-gun) was in office. Now, the Worst President Ever (Drumph) is in office.

Glad to know the cycle is broken.

lol doyers.

Don’t worry they’ll have about 6 more chances to keep the cycle going

While I do get quite a bit of satisfaction from the Doyers stumbling in the WS I'm also quite concerned looking at the make=up of these 'elite' teams. The Doyers may have lost the WS but if everything was to remain station going into 2019 and 2020 we are not going to get anywhere near a division title or possibly even into the playoffs as a WC.
Most of the teams in this year's playoffs had quite a bit of power spread throughout their lineups. That was very clear in the Boston and LA lineups. Many of the runs were accounted for with the long ball. In one of the games they had more runs than hits combined. Even the 'Stros had some power in the lineup.

I'm not sure that a small ball team will be able to survive in MLB much longer. They may be scrappy enough make the playoffs but I'm not sure how much farther they can go after the 1st round.

If we truly want to compete .... we will have to rethink our approach on how this team will be constructed.

If you look at the 10 teams that made the playoffs, you would find that they rank 1st (Yankees), 2nd (Dodgers), 3rd (A's), 4th (Brewers), 6th (Indians), 8th (Rockies), 9th (Red Sox), 10th (Astros), 18th (D-Backs) and 22nd (Cubs) in home runs.

Look at it a different way, slugging percentage, and there are similar results: 1st (Red Sox), 2nd (Yankees), 3rd (Dodgers), 4th (A's), 5th (Rockies), 6th (Indians), 8th (Astros), 9th (Brewers), 11th (Braves) and 13th (Cubs). Of the top 15 slugging teams that missed the playoffs, the Mariners (15th, 89-73), Cardinals (14th, 88-74) and Nationals (10th, 82-80) at least had winning records, the Angels (12th) just missed a winning record (80-82) and the Blue Jays (7th) stunk (73-89).

The Giants, who had the 29th ranked slugging percentage, meanwhile, continue to downplay the fact that power is the name of the game and look at minimizing sluggers like Williamson and Shaw in favor of guys like Gregor Blanco. Hopefully, the new GM realizes where the team needs to go and moves in that direction, without sacrificing the pitching.
