The key has been his improved passing ability as a pocket QB. Without that, he would not be where he is right now. That has always been the key for any QB who is a "running" QB. Eventually, you have to learn how to throw the ball or you will die out in a flash.

Just look at the short shelf life of a RB. Same thing. The QB who is just a RB has a short shelf-life in the NFL. It's just how it is. Those who can adapt to passing will be able to prolong their career.
