So, read this about Nolasco; he's a California kid and the Giants would be his first choice if he were to be traded. He is very good friends with Sergio Romo, apparently. On his current contract, the Giants could absorb it and not have to give up a big prospect. He'd also be open to re-signing here, as he loves pitching at AT&T (career 0.87 ERA) and his agent has some familiarity with the Giants already. He serves as Freddy Sanchez' agent.

So, I think if we look to the trade market, it's going to be down to Nolasco and Norris. Already been established, obviously, but reading links/quotes that back up our thoughts.

And BOTH of those guys WANT to be Giants. Puts us in a nice position...

Yes. The days of good players, in all sports, avoiding a move to the Bay Area (or grossly over-paying for them) have ended... at least for the next few years. I don't think any decent player wanted to come anywhere near our professional squads around 2008. Maybe the Sharks, but that isn't exactly the revenue-producer that "The Big 3 Sports" are capable of.

I don't see many hitters knocking down the Giants doors, though...

Their loss. To them, I say, have a little faith in your talent. Did you notice the reigning MVP resides in The City? That requires some decent numbers. :)

Looking strictly at numbers, the top TWO hitters in the NL last year had a "SF" after their name in the leaders list...

Didn't one though have an asterisk next to it? Or, a big red letter A?

Quick hits - anyone else like the idea of turning Lincecum into a closer?

And, too bad about Pagan. I had hopes of him coming off the D/L Soon, but I guess that is impossible. NEVER good to get taken from the game on a stretcher.

He ABSOLUTELY had a scarlet P next to his numbers. So much so, that MLB (for the first time ever, BTW) decided to OFFICIALLY ignore numbers put up by him.

Prob with Timmeh going to the pen is that it will cost him SERIOUS $$. Starters gat paid much more than all but the most elite of closers. He is a FA this off-season, and does not want to get re-classified as a reliever. It could cost him upwards of 10M per.

For Pagan, the thing that really irritates me about this is that he would never have been hurt if not for two HORRID calls by the same ump in that game. The inside-the-park HR was dramatic, but should not have been needed if the umps were not completely incompetent in that game.

My thoughts exactly on the speed bump in the way of making this so. In fact, this is all coming to light from somone on the Mets board suggesting the move Johan to closer. My reasons against were ego & $$.

Same for Timmy I guess. I really do think this would do both of them good, but it's not my $$ at stake.....

Once again, VERY much agreed. With this setback now, I wonder if he will ever be able to get into the kind of groove he was in last year?

We don't NEED him to. He is one of the clubhouse leaders, more than he is a statistical leader.

We have him for 2 seasons after this year, and he will likely be moved to LF sooner rather than later. Three of our four MLB-ready OF prospects are CF-quality D (Perez, Peguero and Brown; Kieschnick is our fourth) and Blanco has been some-kind-of-special when he has been filling in there as well. Pagan has always been average-at-best defensively in CF.
