I like your beard.
Yep. Frieri. How do you do this two nights in a row, Hurdle? How?
If you're a manager, and your goal is to win this game tonight, how does that suddenly become throwing in a broken former closer who got shelled his last outing into a tied game in the 9th? It's simply an inexcusable decision. It's certainly inexcusable two nights in a row, with your incredibly capable closer/reliever sitting in the bullpen. Hurdle is so incredibly obsessed with coaching by the book with pitchers. A closer is a closer, and they must be used only in save opportunities!
8.5% this year, about league average for a starting pitcher.
It's the majority of mangers in baseball, but no excuse for Clint, it was a stupid decision on many levels.
but he throws 98-100 mph and was the #1 draft. either his methodology for attacking the batter is off or he is a very hittable 98. for being the 2nd hardest throwing SP, league ave for swing and miss isn't right.
Outdated mentality that needs to freaking go. Use your best pitcher in the high leverage situations. I hate the "closer mentality" argument. It's crap. Go pitch. Just like suddenly playing no doubles D in the 9th. Why? Play the D that is most conducive to outs and keeping guys off the base paths. Preventing a double is just giving up a single and putting a guy on base. Obviously I digress, but it's maddening. There's zero precedent to put Frieri out there tonight. Given up 8 HRs in the 9th inning now. He's a flyball out pitcher. Just maddening.
i thought when worley came out they would use pimentel and try and go 2-4 with him to save the pen for a lot of potential use this week.
but frier in the 9th, i thought hurdle said he would break him in with low leverage situations till he had a modicum of success then move forward from there. this was high leverage and haven't seen a modicum of even average yet.
Eh, preventing doubles makes sense, you're not worried about a big inning in the bottom of the 9th, you're worried about one run.
Well it looks like the Cards will be without Molina for most of the remainder of the season. Out 8-12 weeks. That's gotta hurt.
