just taking 3rd base,
do they teach sliding anymore.
why do people need to cary gloves, wear mittens, etc.
every boy in the 60s and 70s new how to slide and that was on crap fields, let alone manicured and soft dirt.
tough break for molina, great break for bucs.
hope the reds keep hitting poorly and their arms tire out.

With Votto down, the Reds' offense simply isn't very good. And with Molina down, the Cardinals are not nearly as good a team. We should be able to plant ourselves pretty firmly in second over the next couple months if we take care of business. And if the Brewers continue to struggle, we'll have a legitimate shot at the division.

But we have to take care of business, like we did on that last homestand. But we're not doing it so far on this road trip, and that's concerning.

Why does a guy as athletic as Andrew McCutchen play so deep? Same with Polanco. Crazy speed and athleticism and they play every guy like Hank Aaron is at bat.

did you see the bad angle cutch took on the ball to his right in the televised game.
not sure he has confidence going back, but we give up a lot of hits dropping in front and not sure we are saving more by playing deeper.

Yep. Ended up working out, oddly enough, because Adams went for 3rd and he gunned him down. It certainly seems like some flares are dropping in a bit more. With the normal outfield I'd much prefer they play it neutral depth, but I think it's based on the players' comfort...and that's pretty important.

And the Reds have lost Phillips and Hamilton too. Homer Bailey left the game early with an apparent injury. Not sure they can survive that many injuries to so many key players.

My goodness the Cards were dysfunctional that inning.

I did enjoy the 5-8 putout, though.

That was a good confidence booster. Now let's go sweep the injury-depleted Reds and make this a winning road trip!

Morton is even more of a stud, but is the unluckiest bastard on the team...

Not sure I would call Morton and Vazquez studs but they have been great 3 and 4 starters. Too bad the 1,2 and 5 holes have been given them issues.

FYI...Looks like Worley is headed to the bullpen for now.

Well, I was referring to his prior outing. If V is a stud for his complete game, Mort is more of a stud for his recent 1-hitter, despite the loss.

If Morton keeps striking guys out, and the defense doesn't get back into more than an error per game sort of play while he's on the hill, I think we can expect him to continue to pitch in the 3's for his ERA. He keeps the ball down, so he's never going to be the sort to give up a lot of home runs, and when you mix in the strikeouts with all the ground balls, Chuck has a good chance to be an above average pitcher going forward.

His increased strikeouts, I think, are the result of finding better and generally more consistent command of his curveball and more frequently incorporating his changeup. Guys have to worry about his sinker. It's really good. And so if can can flip the curve and change up there consistently, he's going to get guys off-balance, and that's what we're seeing this year.

I'd like to see him throw a few more changeups going forward, honestly, but hopefully he can keep this up.

didn't really mean eddie was a stud, but the last 5-6 games, a real stud as far as results save 1 game i think.

morton seems to have the inopportune BB or HBP that always seem to score or synergize a poot inning.
like walking the pitcher as the leadoff guy of an inning, or with 2 out and 2 on walking the pitcher then the leadoff guy gets a 2 out dribbler for 2 runs.

sometimes too much nibbling and his pitch count gets up also.

he's got great stuff and seems to be doing better against LH hitters.

from ERA standpoint, they rank #15 and #25. good for low 1 and low 2, or high 2 and high 3.
we just need one of these 3 - liriano, cole, locke - to be an ace. they have all done it in spurts, but we need a 10 week streak where one of them stakes their claim and proves it to take us to a winnable division championship.

Sorry I get what both of you meant now.

Trust me I hope both keep pitching well. Until the circumstances (Cards/Reds injuries) of the last few days ago I wished they would have sold high on Volquez.
