2) Another Classic: Amid months of speculation, sources confirm Philadelphia is the leading candidate for next year's Winter Classic.

The NHL hasn't officially signed off on the location, largely because of building availability in Philadelphia. The NHL would love to host the outdoor game at Lincoln Financial Field, but the NFL's schedule is making the football stadium virtually impossible, so Citizens Bank Park, the home of the Philadelphia Phillies, will likely be the venue of choice.

The Flyers will likely face the New York Rangers, but the Rangers are waiting for confirmation of their involvement.

The idea of watching John Tortorella co-exist with cameras invading the sanctity of his dressing room and private quarters will almost guarantee huge ratings for HBO's 24/7 leading up to the Winter Classic.

As for the Canadian version of this annual spectacle, the Heritage Classic? Sources say its future is far less certain then its American counterpart. League sources say with only six Canadian franchises, sports venues may not be big enough to support the model of this event financially, so rather than forcing it annually in Canada, the Heritage Classic will likely become a regular event - just not something that is pushed every year.

DREGER REPORT

Boudreau has set the f-bomb record pretty high, but I bet Torts is up for the challenge!
(Torts v. Larry Brooks undercard?)

Its looking like citizens bank park is the leading candidate by a long shot. Just waiting on confirmation from the phillies and Rangers.

I will be ecstatic if this happens. I won't sleep until 24/7 starts again

They wanted it in Phoenix and did a poll in the paper but ended it when the overwhelming response was "What's hockey"?

:heh:

That sucks because football only stadiums have better sight lines are better and the fans closer to the action.

How about a game at the BIG HOUSE in Ann Arbor. Detroit vs. Toronto. More than 115,000 fans and a comeback from Denny Felsner (greatest University of Michigan player ever)

I think they should have it in Minnesota at some point. Wild vs Red Wings would be really good. These are the two states that constantly say they're the best & biggest hockey crazy states in the USA.

I think it is more concern for football season being played around time of the winter classic. They are not even considering a lockout and going straight to citizens bank park.

But I agree 100%. These games should be played in a football stadium. Baseball stadiums look cool, but they are kind of dull for people who are fortunate enough to attend the game.

I've been saying Minny for two years now. Why not move it out west, in a place thats cold, and surrounded by some passionate hockey fans.

The University of Minnesota has a new outdoor football stadium. They could play the game their. The Vikings look like they're getting a new stadium as well in the future.

We are the Craziest Hockey Fans in the States ... the Bars will be packed tonight and there will be a lot of sick calls tomorrow (hopefully not sick of the results). As Crazy as we are ... we are nothing compared to our brothers to the North. Toronto and Montreal would be Epic.

Toronto vs Montreal would be the Heritage Classic. I agree it would be a lot of fun for our friends in the North.

Any idea if it's on Jan 1, 2012?

If the NFL plays, that is the final regular season date and Philly is playing the Redskins at home.

It it bad we would get it again? Yes. Am I ahppy if we do? FUCK YES.

As corny as it sounds, it is MUCH more magical than a Game 4 overtime win when your down 3 games to known or a Game 3 Overtime win in the Finals.

Trust me, I'd know.

Ive heard theyd do it New Year's Eve, but Id prefer a night game.

By the way, due to my 4706 powers let me tell you that Bettman was at the Sabres/Flyers Game 7. If I had to guess he toured CBP

Toronto/Montreal would be awesome.

So, if it's in Philly next year, that's gotta mean that the next two cities are almost for sure Washington (2013) and NY, NY (2014).

When they do it in New York, it would be really smart to do a double header and include the Islanders, Rangers, and Devils. Or maybe even a triple header with those teams each playing a game against another team.
