Diekman is on to close this one out. Nice play by Blanco. Our young players are really coming on and blending in nicely with the vets who are themselves starting to catch fire.
Diekman gets the Brewers 1-2-3 and the Phillies sweep the Brewers!! That was a fun game to watch and could it be that things are coming together and the old explosiveness we all wanted is coming back? Amaro and Sandberg are going to look like geniuses if it does. Onward we go to a homestand against the Nationals before the All-Star break and I hope this kind of play and momentum remedies our at-home ills.
I was in Philly today and caught the game at two good big screen watering holes, the Irish pub (best wings in the world) and Cavanagh's. Buchanan was awfully impressive in the late blooming lop-sided win. We swept Braun and the Brewers! That was amazing. Great pitching and hitting. We're not use to this. We made the Brewers look like a company picnic team. Everyone contributed. Flip a coin to determine if this success can be carried into CBP this weekend. Asche is really piling up great plays at third.
So is Rupp behind the plate, Blanco at second when he plays, and Altherr when he plays. I am liking the blend between old and new going on right now, jvett. That game was amazing and so was the series. The real test is tomorrow night against the Nats at home.
Retro, that's the way I had hoped the blend would work this year but it's probably too late unless they can keep it up for a long time. Paps wants to be traded to a contender and some offers on other players will be coming in. I just wish somehow we could keep it going this year just to see how it plays out. Just think if they went on a 12-5 tear for the remaining July games (this is called dreaming, but things can happen). They'd be 53-56, enough to compete for third. Who knows what might happen next.
Oh I now totally agree jvett. I wasn't on board before mainly due to the struggles they were having thay looked hopeless but you remained faithful and the results are coming and even if Papelbon goes, we got guys who are really beginning to play great. Now if this all goes south at home, we will be right back to square one but I think this series with Milwaukee, we may have turned a corner. WE shall see.
The Phils are certainly capable of taking 2 of the 3 games with WSH. We scored 7 runs off Strasberg in 2 games, beat Rourk 7-2, but Zimmerman shutout the Phillies. It's really a critical series and a good test. I may go to tomorrow's game to check out the crowd enthusiasm.
I am not telling you with anything you already don't know, but going to the CBP and plunking down the cash is your call. I think the first game of the series would be the one to do that because we are coming in with such great momentum. If you go, enjoy the game, we may just win it outright.
