I agree with others in regards to coaching style. There's a lot of styles, and each has their downfall. Player friendly? Players slack off because there's little accountability. Yeller? Eventually players tune you out because it's the same thing all the time. Need to be a bit of a combo really. The best coaches there were had moments of both. It also depends what the room dynamic is...and in the NHL that dynamic can be ever changing, which is why coaches don't tend to last. Coaches come in with their own system and try to force that onto the roster regardless, when it should be the other way around.

Unless you're Bruce Budreau. He tried (flippin') everything in his time with the Caps. Yeller, quiet, offensive-minded, defensive-minded, player promotion, etc.

Boudreau is a great coach, he was then and is now. I'm not really sure what poison was in the water in DC that caused the issues, but I think BB tried too dramatic of a fix to their D problems. But hey, as I said in the other coaching thread (maybe it was this one...), he tried to make a system to fit his roster, and that's what you have to do to survive as an NHL coach.

Agreed. I really miss seeing him in the East. He wasn't jerk, but definitely had some entertaining qualities. No one has ever pumped OV's tires as much as he did, which made the whole "best player" debate really entertaining.

I think it should for Lavy, but not for Homer. It's the GM's job to have a backup plan. When the Penguins lost Sid and Geno, Shero made an attempt at filling the void with Kovalov and Neal. Only Neal worked out in the end, but Shero was able to make an attempt by saving enough space.

If I owned the Flyers, I'd keep Lavy and find a new GM. Look at the pattern, Carter and Richards were considered cancers either personally or with their contract. The Kings made it work. I think Bob's season speaks for itself. I'm not sure why Jagr was allowed to walk. There's also the Pronger, Briere and Bryz contracts to consider. These had nothing to do with the current roster or the coach.

/Forgot to mention the farm system.

Hey now, you've had your Shero. He did his thing, now we have ours :P

Beat me to it. I feel like Ray's made his career on positioning his team against the Flyers, so it would be a little odd to see him help them - even though he grew up as a Flyers fan.

Exactly. This is killing me knowing this. I always thought he would cross over at some point. Probably wishful thinking on my part. He reminds me much like his father.

Keep in mind, the Penguins were on the other end of that. It would take us years of sweeps to even the series. That's why we cling to the three years that worked on our end, heh.

Hahah, seriously, Shero Sr. was the reason behind many, many losses for the Penguins.

I guess that you're just going to have to send Voracek and Giroux to the Oil for the first overall.
