So do Malkin and Letang. maybe I'm missing something. Iggy is 35 and considered a top UFA so I was thinking a guy with more points and younger would be in the mix.

Like I said maybe I'm missing something.

I look at from the perspective that when the new season begins, and contract talks can get serious, Malkin and Letang wil be priorities in Shero's mind. I don't see Kunitz the same way. He would be a due a raise, but it might not be in Pittsburgh.

Letang is the interesting one. I don't think Geno will get much of a raise. I sincerely could see him sticking with Sid and the 8.7 hit. Letang I could see up around $6M.

if letang is coming up on UFA i would be completely and utterly stunned if the pens can keep him for anything less than 7.5.. he's a premiere offensive dman that is capable in the defensive zone.. every GM in the league is paying out the nose for any dman w/ any kind of offensive ability, when it's the top 1 or 2 guy, he's gunna be rich.

You could basically say the same thing about Perry. GM's would have been after him.He definitely would have received more in free agency, but he chose to essentially stay for less.

That all comes down to the individual. I hope he stays, and Letang is worth every penny compared to the deal that Doughty just signed.

oh ya i know, i think 7.5 would be keeping letang for less.. a team like the flyers who DESPERATELY need a puck moving dman would gladly dish out 8.5 for him IMO

OEL is at $5.5M; Karlsson at $6.5M. No way it's more than $7M.

Looking at the top d men on Capgeek I agree. He's going to get a pretty good raise. He's better than most on the list.

they're RFA though (i dont know letang's status).. RFA is a HUGE difference.. the players don't really have a choice but to sign w/ their current team because offer sheets are basically pointless.. in order to steal someone you have to give them like 2mil more than they're worth, and then you have to give them 4 first round picks to boot.. so there really isn't much competition to sign a RFA

not to mention i'd take letang over OEL every day and twice on tuesdays. and i'd probably take him over karlsson too. IMO, letang is second only to weber (who got 7.8 as a RFA).

He is, but I don't think that his is as important as Malkin/Letang. He'll likely get a raise, but I don't think his will be talked about as much this summer with another year on the deal.

Kunitz seems like a prime candidate for a hometown deal. He knows he won't put up these numbers anywhere else. He is on a Cup contender. He gets to play with the (throws up in mouth) greatest player of his generation. He has a chance to be a somebody in Pittsburgh, or be remembered as "that guy that once had that one great season, what was his name?"

He'd be smart to stay put and take a discount. I'm guessing he will.

The Ducks signed their two franchise players. They did what they had to do. Neither one of them is making more money than the highest guys in the league. I have no problem with it.

I think they overpaid and DaBolts is fine with it?

Oh my god... we ARE in bizarro SportsHoopla.

The rumor i heard about Malkin is that he will get a contract similar to the first 8 years of Crosby's contract he signed.

Since 8 year is the max you can sign your own player for Malkin's contract will look something like this:

Sidney Crosby's deal that pays him $86.4 million over the first 8 years of his deal will be extremely close to what Geno will get. The Penguins and Malkin's agent JP Barry have spoken and basically already agreed to do this come July 1st.

Crosby has already gone on record and said he doesn't care if Malkin makes more money than he does.

It's the rumor i have heard so take it for what it's worth.

Teemu Selanne asked about the Perry/Getzlaf contracts: “If they can play 8 more years, then I can too. I’m in better shape than they are.”

That is brilliant.

Can I hope that Alfredsson (who is always in fantastic shape) can tack on another 5 then?
