I will say that the trade deadline stock for Iggy has definitely risen as more players are taken off the market...

Sure has dash, how old is Iggy now?

Edit: Just looked it up and his age will be a factor in his value.

wow this will really handicap this team in the future for depth if the cap goes down as they say. good they signed their guys but holy shit will the middle tier players get poorer and the top guys get bigger. this union will be broken next cba

Yeah, there will be the guys at the top and the rest on ELC's. There will be no middle class. Wait, where have I heard this before?

As for the Ducks, they have a good deal of young guys they've been using this year that will be pretty cheap for the next few years to soften the Getzlaf and Perry hits. And if in those 8 years they get a Cup out of the deal, then it was worth it afterall

/until the next lockout that is.

I love Iggy, but no way he's worth the proposals being thrown around. I don't even like the idea of giving up Despres for him. Older, expiring contract and there's no way the Pens would be able to resign him. He'd go back to Calgary. No doubt in my mind.

what I see is the top guys will get these dollars the bottom guys will always get the minimum and the middle will lose out most due to cap being taken up by the top tier. that being said there are not 60 guys in the league that will make these types of dollars not every team has these types of players so some teams can balance out properly. this will hurt teams with superstars coming up for contracts

Just as it will be interesting to see what happens now to Bobby Ryan, it too will be interesting to see what the Penguins do next year with Malkin and Letang and how much they will get.

We all know the cap is going down to around 64 million next year, but where it goes the following year will determine what numbers we may see.

i really dont think malkin is going to stay in pittsburgh past this contract.. it doesn't make a ton of sense for him (he's way better when cros isn't playing) and it doesn't make a ton of sense for the pens (they don't need him that much as long as cros is healthy).. if i were the pens, i'd quietly look to move him this summer.. they could get a kings ransom for him and probably still save money cap wise

Yeah Malkin at 8.7 and Letang at 3.5 will be interesting. I'm guessing Latang will want a pretty hefty increase.

They have Kunitz at 3.75 coming up too.

Letang is the interesting one. I don't think Geno will get much of a raise. I sincerely could see him sticking with Sid and the 8.7 hit. Letang I could see up around $6M.

I have some of the same thoughts. But I also think there is just as likely a scenario where Letang is the player who is dealt. Everyone seems convinced that Shero has been stocking puck-moving, offensive-minded blue liners just to trade them. I would also like to think maybe one of those early draft picks might just replace Tanger by the end of his deal.

Perry's deal is outrageous. The lockout was pointless... We all pretty much knew that. This deal confirms any last doubts.

He'll get offers well above that, no question.

Whether he accepts them or not is the real if.

I dunno, because last summer Shero fully intended on keeping Staal in addition to Malkin and Sid. I don't think moving him will be an option unless that's what Geno wants. And Geno is the farthest thing from selfish. He was 100% happy to take the same pay as Sid. That said, I could see it happening down the road, but we're talking at least 3 years. No way he goes unsigned. The Pens have the room. Letang is the question mark, especially considering the talent in the system. I think both will be signed, but the question is how many years until one (more likely Letang) is moved?

So no one thinks that Kunitz contract at 3.75 coming into play? Last time I looked he is having a pretty good season.

Oh, no doubt. He'll get max contracts from every team that can afford him, but he's a pretty loyal guy. Not just saying that because I'm a homer. He sincerely loves it here, he's happy. He's not selfish at all. In fact, when that silly article came out earlier this year about him "not getting 'it'" I laughed my butt off. He's passionate, works hard, loves his team. That obviously doesn't mean that he'll take some major discount, but I think it means he'd certainly think about it. And it's not like 8.7 is far off.

He has another year on his current deal. Kunitz will be 35 at that time. Probably best to wait on that for a bit, IMO.

He is, but I don't think that his is as important as Malkin/Letang. He'll likely get a raise, but I don't think his will be talked about as much this summer with another year on the deal.

So do Malkin and Letang. maybe I'm missing something. Iggy is 35 and considered a top UFA so I was thinking a guy with more points and younger would be in the mix.

Like I said maybe I'm missing something.
