From what I have read on the comments attributed to O'Brien it sounds like the Penn State job is a miserable experience and sanctions are only part of the issue. The rumors about cult like behavior evidently didn't go away with Jopa's death so this job maybe a black hole. Unless they were going to give me an extremely large deal with total control (ie Saban's contract) I wouldn't touch it.

I look at it similar to the way i looked at bama for a while. Everybody wants to hang on to the way paterno did it similar to the way we wanted to hang on to the way bear did it. It drives coaches away when they cant do it their way. And until saban came along bama wouldnt let a coach do their own thing and we suffered for it. PSU needs to find their saban.

Google says Penn State is supposedly no longer a cult because of the scholarship penalty reduction, and that everything is now peachy-keen in Happy Valley now that the NCAA said so...Google wouldn't lie, would it?

I think PSU needs to hire an up and coming assistant if they miss on Al Golden. It's a bit of a risk but it can pay off if you do your due diligence.

DC was horrible, OC was very questionable and the entire team was flat.

Not hating it's a trend in big programs at some point you have to those that shouldn't meddle to go home. It happened at Bama and we are working out of it at Auburn. Bottom line the new coach needs to be given absolute control and everyone get out of the way.
