Details haven't fully been released but Paxton Lynch is signing today according to Mike Klis. Total value of the contract looks to be around $9.5 million with about $5.1 of it being a signing bonus. Very interesting that Goff is signing his deal today and is getting about $28 million. Big difference from top pick to Lynch's pick in value.

Anyway good to at least some good news coming out about getting a contract done.

If Paxton becomes the quarterback of the future, the Broncos will have struck gold in value. Four years with a fifth year option gives the team the ability to keep the core intact for a good long run. Of course, Lynch needs to show that he's a great player first but the framework for a nice window for success has been laid nicely.

I've always like the 5th year option in a talented QB - especially if he is a raw talent.

I actually keep hearing people talk about even if he was a 2nd round talent getting that 5th year option at the bottom of the 1st for a QB can be huge. I mean even if he turns out to be only an average QB still having them at that kind of price you can build up a championship roster around that type of player and stand a chance. It is these teams that keep paying $18 million or more a year for average QB's that rarely find themselves in the playoffs yet too good to get a top-10 pick to actually get a franchise QB.

Just an interesting little piece of information about his contract...

He does have a bit different wording than many rookies. He has built into the contract parts of it that automatically get donated to his church, High School, Memphis, and Charitable Foundation. Honestly good idea by him in the sense of that money is taken out of his gross pay and is not taxed lowering his actual take home pay. If he was already going to spend the money that way might as well get it taken out before taxes to help out in the end. But good for him already wanting to give back.

I bet Elway would have liked to have that 5th year option on Brock.

Every 1st rd pick has the 5th year option.

Been that way for a few good years now since the draft slotting allocation money.
