Isn't Lane more of a nickle CB instead of a #2?

yeah they had him playing Nickle last season but he would also play the #2 spot and Burley would slide into the Nickle when they did that last season.

Lane is excellent at man to man although he is not very physical. He is able to stick on quick WR and is fast enough to stay up with even the fastest WR's in the NFL. At 6 foot tall he is not small by any means at CB but 190 pounds i think hurts him.

I always thought the plan was for Lane to be next man up after Maxwell became to expensive, but his injuries blow that up. Looking forward to having him back, have to see how long it takes him to shake off the rust.

I have a tough time seeing Lane ascend to anything higher than the nickel guy this year. He may not even get that far -- Shead has been decent.

We'll see. I always though he was good, but injuries can change that.

Burley too.

Lane replaced Browner at the end of 2012 for his 4-week suspension. He can play the outside, but like others have said, to expect him to do so this year coming off of the injuries is unrealistic.

Maxwell replaced Browner for those few weeks. And when Maxwell went down last year, Simon took his spot outside. I can't ever recall Lane start,in outside, or even getting any extensive playing time outside.

I also can't remember Lane playing any meaningful snaps at CB, but he is a damn good nickle back.

Snap counts for the last 4 weeks of the 2012 season:
Week - Maxwell - Lane
14 - 40.7% - 39.0%
15 - 83.6% - 80.6%
16 - 54.4% - 96.5%
17 - 51.6% - 48.4%

In Nickel situations, Lane would slide in and Maxwell would take the outside, but Lane was definitely playing some outside too, especially in the 49ers week 16 game.

Lane has played a lot on the Outside and was great at it. He was always all over the WR's. What issue lane had is he would get out muscled a lot on contested balls. ( which most were when he was in coverage ) Lane if you ask me is the best Man to man cover corner ( not press corner ) on this team.

Carroll said wide receiver Paul Richardson could have played Sunday had the Seahawks opted to activate him from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list to their 53-man roster, which they didn't. He said Richardson is ready to go and will "totally be in the mix" from here on out. Carroll said nickelback Jeremy Lane, who is also on PUP, is on track to begin practicing next week once the Seahawks return from their bye and that "we'll have to figure out where he's ready or not from there." In other words, it's too soon to say when he might make his season debut. Carroll had previously pointed to the week after the bye as when the Seahawks expected Lane to begin practicing.

Great to hear that Richardson is ready to go and that he'll be in the mix from hear on out... He and T. Lockett together will be a site for sore eyes... Kearse has a hard time getting open so it will be nice to see Richardson dip into Kearse's snaps...
