So apparently he had a shouting match with Matty P and that was the end of Collins. Apparently he was doing his own thing out there on the field, and was not "do your job". He messed up bad on the 2nd play of the game where Buffalo got 29 yards. After that he only played on passing downs, and Roberts took over.

It sucks he went, but there was a reason. Hurt, not doing his job, arguing with coaches, wanting to much money, and then talking about it in the locker room. Also reports are that he is not as passionate about football as most. All things that are bad for a team. I mean if he was performing at an all pro level, tearing it up and was like "hey lets talk contract after the season" and kept quiet about it in the locker room, he would still be on this team. What sucks is the pick coming back...that pisses me off.

I think we'll be fine with Roberts. He has actually been playing better than Collins. IDK, let's see what else is going to happen tomorrow. My thought, nothing...

if that truly is the case then yeah, of course he would be gone. Any other team and he probably would still be on the team but not BB's Patriots. You can't do that sort of nonsense in New England and expect to get away with it!

From what I've heard so far......

Collins was not a locker room cancer so to speak, but Belichick had made an offer to his agent and Collins wasn't happy about it. BB told him that it was the best that he could do under the circumstances. This was about 4 weeks ago. Instead of putting in more effort and work into the game Collins has slacked off horribly since the Houston game. Attitude. Belichick actually asked Collins about being traded to Cleveland and Collins that Cleveland was fine with him.

Bert Breer of NFL.Com said that He believes that this was a message to the rest of the Patriots team. It wasn't spontaneous, it's been brewing for some time. BB supposedly wanted a 1st or 2nd round pick and nobody thought Collins was worth that much. He settled for a 3rd Round Compensatory pick from Cleveland. If another team had offered a 3rd round pick, I'm sure BB would have taken it.

Breer said that he heard that no more Patriot players are on the block but he's heard several rumors about several players who could be coming to Foxboro before 4:00 this afternoon. Not a lot of open roster spots, so there could a couple of guys leaving by 4:00 PM today.

Heard a little info on Collins on the radio this afternoon. Someone did a bit of research because they thought that all of the news about Collins performance decreasing might be blown out a bit.

2014 tackles per game = 9.2
2015 tackles per game = 7.8 (13 games, missed 3 due to unknown illness)
2016 tackles per game = 6.1 (5-1/2 games)

The researcher was shocked when he found the stats because he thought Collins was playing much better than his stats indicate.

Some information is starting to leak out. Matt Patricia and Don Flores (Linebacker Coach) tried to work with Collins but after the Houston game he just didn't want to do anything. This was about the time that Belichick made his offer. Collins wants Von Miller money. Sorry, but Von Miller had an incredible 2015 and continued it into the Super Bowl. He earned the big paycheck. If Collins had put it on the line and busted his nuts every week, had a couple of sacks every game or an INT every game, he might have an argument. When you give on BB's team, you become an after thought.

It's starting to subtly add up:

1) He wasn't going to be resigned
2) He wasn't putting in effort to fulfill his potential
3) He wasn't playing by the game plan - which grants a license to others to do the same
4) Other teams saw the same things which almost eliminated any reasonable trade value
5) There was more value to the team by subtracting him - more so by increasing the value of others

Hungry linebackers by committee will perform better than a lazy superstar that won't do what he is told.
Elandon Roberts is having great games.
Watcha got, Mingo?????

Browns sign Collins to a 4-yr/$50M extension. $26M guarantees. Collins paid more the Luke K of the Panthers

Odd isn't it? Patriots defense has improved without Jones and Collins.

I actually thought he would get more. Browns having the cap space they do and well Collins from some reports wanting much much more than just a little over $12 million a year.

As for the being more than Kuechley. That is to be expected with the cap going up. We see lower level players making more just because they signed the deal now compared to a couple of years ago. Heck JJ Watt's deal seemed crazy a couple of years ago. Now obviously there are others at his position that have passed him.

This is right about what I figured some team would pay him. Like you said due to the timming it's about right. Maybe a little high? But Cle had the space and wanted him. Good for him and good for Cleveland.

Well Cleveland is going to have to overpay to get anybody to come play for them. Money is the one thing they can offer right now. Nothing else about the team would entice players. Terrible location, terrible team, ownership that is all over the board, and coach could get fired at any moment.

I do think this is a good deal for both sides though. Cleveland gets a player they can hopefully build their defense around and Collins should be happy with the money in his pocket.

With Collins signing a 4 year deal worth $50M, the bottom end of Hightower's contract negotiations has been set. The top end, of course, is Von Miller money. If Hightower holds out to get as close to Miller as possible, his days as a Patriot could be numbered. Maybe he can get a gig on DWTS.

I doubt he would be asking for Miller type money. Pass Rushers and ILB's are 2 different pay levels. That is why the talks of Collins wanting Von Miller money just made 0 sense. Hightower though should be asking for more than what Collins just got.

I love HT but if he asks for more than Collins he will have a new home address next year.

Hightower missed more than 6 games this year. He's got a seriously bad knee and cannot cover anyone who can run faster than he can walk. HT is becoming a one dimensional player. If he's expecting more than $7-$8M he'll be playing in a second rate team looking for "name" players.

Unfortunately, you are correct, Ken. He has given us his best and he is not what he was. Some rest and not playing hurt could help but large sums of money won't.....

1-IMO HT is going to be tagged with NE drafting a few LB to fill his role next yr.
2-Ryan is going to get paid a ton and leave. Glad Rowe was traded for. CB market is deep next yr (from what I heard) so we can find someone.
3-Harmon and Butler get extensions this yr. Someone brought up how important Harmon has been and it has allowed Chung to do his thing. If not, then I am a little worried about Richards.
4-No shock to see them extend Branch and Long. J.Sher is gone. DE in FA and Draft.
5-I think Amendola or Floyd is gone. Would not shock me to see BB sign Marshall if he gets cut. Marshall wants a ring and will prob shut up and play to get one.

Marshall made a hysterical quote the other day........

"I hate the Patriots, but I hope I can play with them and Brady before he retires."

Once they peel off the shirt that they're wearing, the Patriots become a love toy.
