This is a tough season for the pats. 25M in dead money and limited cap space. Next year they have like 80M in cap space. If they were ever gonna cancel a season and I’m the pats... this is the one to do it.
I guess but I still think they would have put a very competitive team in the field, made the playoff's and won the AFCE.

Sources: Patriots' Hightower to opt out of season

other notables:

July 27
i

Marcus Cannon, OT, New England Patriots
Cannon plans to opt out of the 2020 season, a source confirmed to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Monday night. Cannon, 32, is set to receive the $350,000 higher-risk amount as a cancer survivor, a source told Fowler. Cannon overcame non-Hodgkins' lymphoma after he was drafted in 2011. The news about Cannon was first reported by 98.5 The Sports Hub.

i

Danny Vitale, FB, New England Patriots
The 26-year-old Vitale, who was the team's most experienced candidate to replace retired fullback James Develin, had signed a one-year, $1.3 million deal with the Patriots in May as a free agent. The contract included $100,000 in guaranteed money. Vitale, who has played in 44 career games, wasn't a lock to make the Patriots' final roster as he was vying for a spot against second-year player Jakob Johnson and undrafted rookie free agent Jake Burt.

i

Najee Toran, C/G, New England Patriots
Toran, 24, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA in 2018 with the 49ers and was vying for a backup role after spending the 2019 season on the Patriots' practice squad.
Nobody wants to play for Belichick.

If it cant be figured out in baseball I dont see how the NFL avoids it. There is so much more close contact between players there.

Baseball proves that close physical contact like football or hockey isn't necessary for virus transmission in sports. Playing baseball outdoors in fresh air should minimize transmission. Indoor stadiums, particularly with the roof closed for winter, will be worse.

Looks like the number of players opting out is coming in hot and heavy right now, with a lot of teams being affected. I doubt we have a season, fellas.

These mother fucking Chinese assholes and their fucking virus.

Unrestricted warfare sucks.

Can't even start the season on November 5th, because these fucks won't stop attacking American greatness like our sporting leagues.

The Pats aren't lucking out, but BB is, because he gaining excuses for any failure post Brady.

Well the Pats had one of the best defenses last year and had a very good draft and still have a lot of seasoned vets. I suspect they still would have made the playoffs and won the AFCE

I wasn't countung them out. I do think the end is near, but Brady was no where near as good last season as he has been.
