Hopefully CLE has to take Bolden and Ryan as part of the deal. Honestly there has to be more than what we know right now. Typical NE media release. Deal is dependent on J Thomas passing a physical or something like that. B B just won't say it until it's a done deal.

Reports are that Collins wanted a Mega-Contract. Belichick tried to make an offer but Collins wants a better than Miller deal. Only problem is that Collins is good.......not great....AND he's missed three games this year due to injury and missed some last year because of injury.

If the Pats got a third round pick, then it'll be better than a compensory third rounder at the end of the third round. Cleveland's will be the first pick of the third round.

Now if Bill can get Thomas and drop to a fourth round, you'll be able to hear me scream in Portland, Ore.

Mike Lombardi gave his explanation on the Herd. It made some sense.

This made me laugh. I'm hoping for a manly Roar. :thumb:

Does this mean Barkevious Mingo is getting ready to bring his athleticism to the linebacking corps?

So, here's the deal. The NFL changed the compensatory rule last year. Starting with the up coming 2017 draft, you can trade compensatory picks. The Pats only get the Browns 3rd round compensatory pick if the Browns are awarded one. If they are not, the Pats get the Browns 4th round pick.

Interesting so doesn't really give the Pats much of an advantage then if it is a 3rd round comp considering they would have most likely gotten one for him anyway? Really strange move.

Radio guys are screaming like hell about how bad this hurts the Pats defense. No one thinks that Belichick Knows what he's doing and that he didn't get enough for Collins or Derby.

I have a very simple answer..........if these guys are so knowledgeable and so freaking sports smart, why is it that no professional sports franchise is beating their door down to have them take over a franchise??

In my opinion................

1. Jamie Collins performance has fallen off dramatically this year.
2. Against Buffalo he took three absolutely horrible angles on three separate plays and totally missed three tackles.
3. Collins has missed three games for minor boo boos this year...primarily a sore back.
4. Belichick has seen this man play for four years and must have some sense of what he's doing
5. Belichick has proven repeatedly that when he dumps a player, it's the right time to dump...
1, Seymour 2. Mankins 3. Wilfork 4. Dobson
There comes a time to cut bait or fish..............

I'm sure that BB also had multiple discussions with Matt Patricia and the linebackers coach before he made this decision.

This wasn't done overnight..............BB acquired Barkevious Mingo and Van Noy. This has been in the works for at least a month. Collins knew it was coming and it was "Jump on the train or get run over by it". He missed the train.

Now the acquisition of Kyle Van Noy makes more sense. The trade does sound pretty one sided, which makes me think there may be something else coming from Cleveland (Joe Thomas?). Solder has looked pretty bad at times this year and may not be in BB's long term plans. I do hope BB does something else before trade deadline tomorrow.

By doing it now, the Pats get a 2017 pick. If they waited and just let Collins walk and got a compensatory pick....it would be for 2018.

Jerome Wiggins, former Patriots TE and local sports news guy, was on NESN tonight.

His take on this is that Jamie Collins had to have been acting up in the locker room. Wiggie says that Belichick will give a guy a quick "Hey, take it easy." and then let it go. If it happens again, BB will take him aside and give him a straight warning not to do anything further. If it happens a third time, he's gone. Wiggie wouldn't say WHO he knew had been shipped out, but he did say that he knew of a couple guys that were cut and it ended their careers.

When a guy is released, other teams will call the head coach and ask about him. Wig said that BB does not mince words, he tells the other coach that the guy was cancer and cut it out of the team.

So Wiggins believes that Collins may have been giving BB a hard time and doing some bitching in the Locker room....................."""No Distractions""""..................end of story.

Collins got burned twice badly in the AFCCG by the Broncos TE Owen Daniels.

We were talking about trade with Collins months ago. He has not been performing since.

99.9% correct BK.
Dobson should have been cut a year earlier.

Jamie Collins was a freelancer on the field, and the Patriots weren't going to continue to put up with it.

That's how former assistant to the Patriots coaching staff Mike Lombardi explained the team's decision to trade Collins, a Pro Bowl linebacker last season, to the Browns for a compensatory third-round pick.

"Not surprised by the Pats trading Collins," Lombardi tweeted on Monday. "Not been playing well at all they need to get the defense fixed. This will get their attention."

Lombardi added: "Collins on the second play of the game [versus Buffalo] does whatever he wants and Bills gain 28 yards. Been happening all year. It was not going to continue."

The play Lombardi referenced was Bills running back Mike Gillislee's 28-yard run in the first quarter. Collins crept up to the line of scrimmage and shot a gap between the guard and tackle anticipating an inside run. Gillislee instead bounced outside and had plenty of room to run. Had Collins remained on the defensive right side of the formation, he may have been in position to make a play.

Collins' athleticism is what has made him one of the game's most impactful linebackers over the last season-and-a-half, but Lombardi insists that his eagerness to go off-script was not going to be tolerated any further.

"You are either coaching it or allowing it to happen," Lombardi wrote. "Belichick decided he was not going to allow it to happen. Colllins talented but..."

Collins played 47 of a possible 69 defensive snaps in Sunday's win over Buffalo, which came as somewhat of a head-scratcher since he is usually close to a 100 percent participant when healthy. Sixth-round rookie Elandon Roberts saw time in place of Collins in certain packages, playing 28 snaps total.

Lombardi worked in New England during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, and he worked with the team into last offseason before he and the Patriots mutually parted ways. Lombardi, who worked under Belichick during Belichick's head coaching tenure in Cleveland, now serves as an analyst for Fox.
