Does "Assholery" include someone posting "That's my opinion asshole , stick it up your ass if you don't like it" ??

For me this is one of the worst types of offenders. I have never understood the need to take things to a personal level just because someone doesn't agree with your point of view. That's the beauty of a fan's forum. Everyone should have a right to participate and voice their opinions without being attacked. Some people just seem to take the position that their opinions are fact. There have been quite a few times that I have changed my initial stance on an issue just because of the dialog in the associated thread. Not sure if you remember Marcus from the Disney board. He had about 10 different alternates because he was always being banned for one thing or another. He always seemed to be in attack mode. He was a 'real fan' in terms of his devotion to the team but he just didn't seem to relate well to the rest of the forum. I always thought that it was a shame because I also thought he had some pretty valid insights but you just couldn't disagree with him without being attacked for it. HWSNBN was just .... I don't have words for it. I had never seen a troll that actually 'trolled' his own team's boards. He clearly knew the Giant team but everything always seemed to have a negative twist to it. If we lost, then the season was over. Didn't matter if it was still June! If we won 5 straight we seemed to just be 'lucky' or who ever we were playing were just horrible that particular day. Never really saw him extract any enjoyment from being part of the 'board' community. I love talking baseball and tend to try and embrace what this community has to offer. He just never seemed happy .....

Marcus had a lot to offer. I actually specifically extended an invite to him to come here, understanding that his shtick had to stay at Disney. To my knowledge, he never came, tough.

As for the quote in question, IBLLJ was an asshat. But when he came here, he got attacked pretty relentlessly by myself and tz, so I gave him a bye with the quote. I may have given him too much rope, but as I have said, I HATE to ban. He was banned from the site more so for what he was doing elsewhere, but when we had issues with him as well, there was no reason to defend him any longer.

He was annoying, but I was willing to give him a pass until he got personal in a PM. Then, I just ignored him. Hope he works whatever his issues are out. Seems like he cares, he's just immature.

No credit for sticking with my teams after moving from one part of the state to the other?

eh. theres a double standard with that. if you went to LA and stayed a Giants/9ers fan, you'd get credit. Coming to SJ and not converting loses you points.

Just think of what it felt like to an 11 year old kid when his team moved from NY to SF. I stayed a Giant fan because that was all I knew. Mays was my hero and to be honest the only other choice in NY at the time was the NYY. Never understood why but it's very difficult for kids to switch allegiences between teams and even more difficult to change leagues. Just would have been unimaginable for me to root and follow the NYY. Maybe it had to do with my age and being a kid. The Mets didn't hit NY for 5 more years. So there were no local NL teams. Not sure what many of the oldtime Giant and Dodger fans actually did back then. Guess it was my very first introduction to a 'long distance love affair' .... still remember trying to listen to the ballgames at 11:00pm at night. For the first year or so they were still broadcasting the games back to NY. Now the only time I see them 'live' is when they come to NY. But as an oldtimer I can now purchase the MLB package and see all the games ..... would have killed for that as a kid
