Lol.....GB fans thinking they didnt over pay for a qb that has not proven anything but won a playoff game vs a team that self implodes every year they make the playoffs.......
So you GB fans think Love deserved a record breaking contract.....??

Pay raise,of course,he earned something more,wont lie about that......but a record setting contracct......??......hell no.
I’m a Lions fan and I think they did the smart thing.

Only way it could’ve been better is if they’d paid him before Lawrence and Goff got theirs.

2024: cap hit of 20m

2025: cap hit 30m (dead cap 83m if cut before season)

2026: cap hit 35m (dead cap 95m)

2027: cap hit 41m (dead cap 60m)

2028: cap hit 73m (dead cap 63m if cut, assuming $20m 2028 salary gets offset by other team)

2029: void year, dead cap 35m

Moab where the actual ass are you getting those numbers from? Not only does it not make sense reading your article but how the hell does the dead money go UP a year later? And overthecap and spotrac are nowhere close to your figures.

The way rookie deals are now you will be good to get by cheap if your QB lives up to the hype. After year 4 though he will be getting moch more then Love. QB contracts and the salary cap will not be going down.

The team has experience with this. Go look back at Rodgers aftr he sat 3 years and finally started. Go see what his first year was and if they made the playoffs. Rodgers had a good 1/2 of a season. Then go see the contract extension he was given compared to others in the NFL

Mahomes is old news and he signed a 10 year deal worth just over $500 million. When you sign a 10 year deal it is hard to always be the highest paid QB

Trevor Lawrence is paid the same as Love and hsa done nothing but be average. Burrow has the same pay as love and all he does is get hurt. There are other QBs with the same money as Love. The only dofference with Love was the size of the $75 mil signing bonus

I guess Dez was right about one a few years back

I did the dead cap and cap hit backwards.

Well your cap hit was fairly close (and correct in some places), but where did you get dead cap of $63M in 2028? I'm not really sure you got any thing backwards it seems you're just off for some reason.. and...

oh ya know what fuck it...

They both are paid the same amount. One is hurt quite a bit though and has a hard time playing full seasons

You won't find too many people taking Love over Burrow if they had the chance.

And he averages 13 games a season so....

The final piece to complete the billion dollar QB draft class. None have won a SB and only one has even sniffed one. Fwiw, for all the talk of how Mahomes is getting less, people should check the real numbers. Mahomes from last season through 2026 actually more real cash in the bank account than any of them. AAV don't mean shit in the NFL. The media and agents sure like it though. Not gonna get into the whole "deserve" part of it. Time will tell the tale and the price will continue to go up.

Half the Super Bowls since the 2020 draft class entered the league, have been 3 point losses by 2020 Draft Class QBs.

So even with half a bad season some of those games in the bad part of the season must have been decent

as the NFLs to player st 55 mill per season.....

More than Mahomes.....??

Get eff outta here.

Are the Packers crazy........wow,just simply wow.

What do you suggest?

I doubt he wants to negotiate after this season and that would be bad for GB bc they could lose him.

Coming off a season of 4,200 yards 32-11

There are a couple options:

A. Play the season out (if the player is up for it) and lose him in FA
B Play the season out and sign him to a bigger deal with likely more guaranteed money
C What GB did and extend him now to a deal (that will likely look good in a couple years if he keeps playing well)

There are always going to be contracts that look not so great value wise when they are first make them but down the road they could absolutely look like a bargain but it depends on his play. It seems like a fine contract right now. They have an out in 2027 if he plays bad.

This is the risk you take sitting a guy for 3 years. The guy only gets one year to show you what he's got. The benefits the Packers have seen with these QB's is they are fully developed though and it works for them. If Love keeps playing like he has for the next couple seasons he will get extended again and that point he will definitely be a franchise QB so it will work itself out.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with this except A really isn't on the table. That should be FT and see if another team is willing to cough up 2 firsts for him which is highly unlikely given Lamar just went through that and no takers. FA is off the board. As you say, this is essentially 3 years and will likely look good in hindsight even though there isn't much of a sample size to go off of. Signing him next year would likely cost them substantially more if he has another good season and with what GB puts around him, that is likely. Tough to fault GB brass on this one given what other guys have been getting. Nature of the beast, sorta thing.
