Because the SEC hates their own stadiums and fans to the point they'll play in the middle of a stock car track.

SEC teams are offered big money for the neutral-site games & the sponsors pick up all the game-day expenses. So, playing a neutral-site game once every few years just helps the bottom line. It is also a boon to whatever non-SEC team is chosen to face them in that game.

It is not our fault that schools from other conferences aren't popular enough to be invited to such events on such a regular basis.

We literally are talking about USC.. a game in LA.. in a talent rich area. But yeah, lets talk about popularity..

I'm glad Texas didn't decide to play Bama, FL, tosu, Michigan or GA in a neutral site. But then again, they probably haven't been to an actual city like Austin before either.

Another coolaide drinking Bama fan. Its college football .It should be in front of students where they go to school. You come here we go there. These BS games are made so SEC teams can play glorified home games while calling them neutral so they can avoid playing on other teams home turf . They already dont play each other very often and with this they avoid possibly getting a decent game at another teams home stadium. Its about getting every edge they can.
Fuck that. And fuck thinking its just about "the money we get". Thats just the BS they are trying to sell. How much money would the area around Tuscalusa make from 30k USC fans would spend in three days. I mean if they care about money.

There's only a couple games that should stay at nuetral sites..like the Red River Shoot out at the Texas state fair in Dallas between UT and ou.. Or the FL vs GA game.
Now I do understand how some games might move from the college stadium to a pro stadium nearby..i.e Texas playing rice at the Texans stadium.. but these other games.. like for example atm vs arkansas.. they play at jerry world every season yet ask most fans they rather have that game in CS or Fayetville.. doesn't make sense

Just heard on the radio that Alabama flatly denies that the SC game is in jeopardy.

There seems to be growing skepticism re: that game happening. But I have no doubt that both Alabama and USC (and probably the NCAA) are exhausting every possible scenario to make sure the game happens.

The biggest obstacles seem to be the thought that LA County is looking at extending the stay at home order 3 more months and the state being slow re: opening things back up.

Technically, I think USC may be able to do what they want with regard to the State because as a private school they aren't part of the Cal State or UC systems.

But I don't think they can go against the county (which seems weird, but it's California sooo...).

Money. They make more on the neutral site one off game.
If the money was the same but if everything else (their advantages) was reversed they wouldn't do it. They already play every one of their other OOC games at home. They end up with like four true road games in a season. You take a decade of that and its another way to boost winning percentages.

So Texas did a disservice to SC by not playing them in Arlington or at the AZ cards football field? So I guess Texas isn't all about money, who would have figured that?

In a way, yeah. It was kind of a disservice to both.

While Texas/USC were big games and got plenty of tv revenue, they also each had to foot the bill for their own travel, meals, etc.

These sponsored neutral site games pay huge money to both schools and cover all other costs as well.

For the record, I agree with you re: where the games should be played. That's why I don't see myself attending one of these types of games.

I am far more interested in experiencing game day in Tuscaloosa than in some stadium like Jerrah World where neither team has any tie to the area.

You can't schedule Citadel , Panera Bread and University of Phoenix all at home then tell me you really only play these neutral games because of the money. Sorry but that makes no sense. You tell me playing USC at home doesn't blow your home cupcake schedule away with the money that would come in?

As someone who has gone to these games I can't disagree more. There is almost zero college football atmosphere there. They found a way to make some money and still not travel to other teams home stadiums where they cant control everything.

There was a huge difference between playing Texas in Austin and Playing Alabama in Arlington. We got to Austin like Thurs morning and the place was electric from the jump. Restaurants and bars and all the Texas students. The Bama game it didn't even feel like there were Bama fans there at all till that morning.
