That was supposed to be the point of the lockdown in the first place.

Have folks stay home, let the medical system catch up, flatten the curve and then start re-opening.

All of those things have happened except the re-opening part, which is just barely getting underway.

In fact, hospitals have been laying people off because they don't have enough patients.

The reason hospitals are laying off in some places is because there are many people putting off anything that isnt life threatening. They fear the hospital more than the torn acl or need for hip replacement.

My neighbor who is also in this bible study group doesn't know how he got exposed to it either. He is a widow, and his children live out of state. We just hope he makes a speedy recovery.
probably store or something unfortunately.
or it could have been someone he went to or they came to him in a time of need passed it to him even unknowing.

It could also be if he was allowed to a healthcare facility to administer last rights or other type of service. not sure if thats still being done in these times. or someone on hospice. even if he took all the precautions it could still happen.

Yep he was out the past 3 Wednesday's.. In fact I didn't know he tested positive for Covid 19 til the past Wednesday (6th). One of the other members speaks to someone close to him.. We figured he would be back next week, so i didn't think anything too serious. He seemed to be in good health fwiw.

We originally started laying off people at the start of the pandemic and many have been laid off the entire time. Those that had clinical skills that do not translate to emergency/CCU/inpatient medicine and had their clinics closed by the Governor early on had nowhere to transfer to. They sent as much of the workforce to work from home as was possible. That eliminated jobs that support all of those staffers onsite. Hundreds were laid off from our facility. And yet we were short handed during the peak of the patient load.

We will be opening back up elective surgery starting this coming Monday. It's too little too late. Thousands will lose their jobs in the medical field around the country from the fallout.

The hospital I work for is still losing $800,000 a DAY. Shedding $25m a month. And that's after getting $13m from FEMA and more from the CARES act.

There is no way to make up that kind of loss. UW medical center is plain fucked. And so are several other main institutions in King County.

All hospitals lose money on the flu every year. Too many on medicare/medicaid that doesn't come close to paying for costs of treatment. While the Fed paid a bit better for Covid, it didn't come close to recovering the costs from mandatory clinic and elective medicine shutdown.

For reasons you mentioned the shedding of money will continue through the rest of this year. We won't get enough recovery back of patients to even go back to breaking even. Social distancing requirements will not allow capacity anyway.

The system our hospital is in is expected to lose $500m by early summer.

Wow , those are eye popping numbers. I never imagined it's that bad. I was talking to a friend yesterday and we talked about wont it be nice to meet up with friends for happy hour again and he wondered how many places can stay open with all the new rules. You have to move chairs and tables farther apart from one another. How much is a beer gonna be so they can make a profit? They are talking about out mens softball starting back up with new rules sometime in late June. We all wondered what kinda rules are gonna have. Gloves on both hands? No tagging?

yeah money isn't everything.. or atleast I thought it was. They need to give the fans a great schedules at home.

I agree. And that is going to be the case for many teams going forward. But I have no problem with the occasional showcase neutral-site game, as long as it is between two good teams. I hate it when one of the teams turns out to be a dud.

I hope y'all are right.. just got a text from my mens bible study group (i'm trying to change, heathens) that our pastor has been admitted to ICU.. he's been quarantine'd the past week. He's 54. First person I actually know that has it.. and is in ICU as of now.

Prayers for your pastor, his family & anyone he has had recent face-to-face contact with.
