CFB recruiting is big business and the elite recruits are mostly in the south, brought up watching and cheering for ACC and SEC teams. If these elite kids pick a school away from home — it will be another school in south 9 times out of 10 and not the cold weather in the north.

IMO, making a run and actually competing are not the same. I think it's possible for any of the teams to actually make a run, but things need to fall their way at the same time.

The Gophers just weren't up for the task, and I think the chase wore on them after the PSU game. They were given a puncher's chance against Auburn, but DAMN! They smacked them in the mouth. Now that it's behind them, the West is there for the taking. Get lucky against the East division winner (probably tOSU, maybe PSU), and who knows. But year in and year out? Not likely.

And that gap will only get bigger if the new OSU coach can continue to win at the rate Urban had them winning. He is what? One year in? NEVER should a coaches first year be looked at as indicative of how his future will go. Remember Tubby at UK? Won a Title in his first year. What has he done since then? Tampa Bay's Coach that came in after Dungy? Won a Title in his 1st season, right? What has he done since?

I could come up with at least another dozen examples of coaches coming in, inheriting someone else's players, doing well in year 1, and then fading into oblivion.


OSU screwed the pooch in their game vs Clemson. That was BAD coaching. They had that game won, but recklessly got the penalty called on them when Clemson was punting deep in their own territory, giving them the 1st down. That has to be one of the dumbest plays EVER.

Does not give me great confidence that this new OSU coach will continue to get OSU into the cfp and that he'll ever get them another Title. I can almost gaurantee that he will not win OSU another Title. He'll keep them being a very tough opponent in the B1G, but for how long? I could easily see PSU or the West Champ take them down in the next 2-3 seasons.

Saban is getting older. Film can be found in abundance to figure out how to beat him. Auburn has done it multiple times. Hasn't one of the Mississippi schools also beat him? He sucked while at Mich St. 0-3 in bowl games.

The new OSU coach should have won that Clemson game, but he screwed up.

Your pie in the sky approach to this is overly homeristic... and is getting quite annoying. Most kids, given the chance, are going to want to stay close to home for their family. How often do you hear "now my mom will be able to come see the games...?" You're completely ignoring that aspect.

I’m talking the elite recruits — the 5 star guys, the top 50 recruits, the top 100 recruits — the elite of the elite......I’m not talking about getting random guys from these big time football states.

And what has helped turn Clemson into a national title contender is.......the state of Georgia. DeShaun Watson was from Georgia. Trevor Lawrence is from Georgia.
Georgia usually has around 35-45 blue chip recruits per year. Georgia can only sign so many, so who goes after them? The team that is less than an hour from the Georgia border.
