Who the fuck cares about bridges? Just tell the Michigan fans that they suck and should be thankful anyone even considers them a blue blood program given that they haven't done anything since the first crossword puzzle was published.

Now that isn’t nice. Are you still upset because you refuse to accept the reality of CFB today?

You shouldn’t be upset at UM fans, you should upset for the location of your school.

I'm not upset, just done seeing posts about stupid ass bridges and thought that shitting on Michigan would be more constructive.

I don't refuse to accept reality of CFB, I refuse to accept your nonsense. Which has already been refuted time and again... but thanks for playing.

Oh yeah — I forgot, it is the coaches fault at Nebraska, not the fact CFB is completely different than the 80’s and 90’s.

FYI — You need coaching AND the ability to recruit elite talent. The last part is the key. Nebraska’s location is about as bad as any program can get. No instate talent and next to no talent in all the states that surround them. THAT is Nebraska’s problem.

Here is an example:

In the last 4 recruiting cycles — OSU has signed 74 blue chip recruits, of which 16 were 5 star guys.
During that same period — Nebraska has signed 29 blue chip recruits and 0 5 star guys.

That is how big the difference is in the programs now.

How does Boise St get good players to go there? Utah? Oklahoma? Friggin Iowa? Missouri?

Some people prefer to go to schools located in college towns were they are the only show in town.

And come on, why would anyone want to move to and live in Alabama??? lol

And I'll say, it's cold in Ohio, why would people want to go there when they could instead go to Miami or FSU or Texas or USC or anywhere but cold arse Ohio.

NFL Football factories. Nebraska hasn’t been one of those for a long time.

The right coach could change that. That's all that is needed. But that coach has to figure out how to offer young players something they can't get somewhere else.

I think that is Fleck's key to success. He offers kids the RTB culture. They buy into it, and the community is now buying into it as well.

Other coaches point to their being a pipeline to the NFL, other's point to their string of 10+ win seasons, other's point to their 100,000+ stadium and the game day experience, other's point to their being the premier school for people of that religion, etc..

OSU is the premier team in the B1G. They have a ton of in state talent, are the only P5 football program in the state and they fill the NFL draft with talent every year. Hell, 2 of the top 3 picks this year will most likely be from OSU.

With the CFP now — It has all but eliminated the chance of a team, who isn’t bringing in elite recruiting classes yearly to win a title. It isn’t going undefeated in your division and getting a bowl game to ‘win a title’. It is now — You have to win a CCG, then win, not one, but two games in the CFP.

It sucks to hear for fans of teams with that pipe dream, but it is the truth.

While it is great to think this way. The reality is — your conference footprint is big in recruiting. Your home state is huge in recruiting. The talent that is around your state is huge in recruiting.

Local talent are brought up watching your school, your conference. Many grow up fans of the school. Talent in surrounding states give recruits a chance to ‘move away’ to a premier school but still be close to home and their family can still make the weekend trips to watch them.

The ‘right coach’ may improve recruiting, but zero chance they recruit at a level the elite recruiting school do. Saban signed like 20 five star recruits from just the state of Alabama his first 10 years. To use Michigan as an example — I’d wager we haven’t have 10 five star recruits over the roughly 20 years they’ve tracked recruiting.

The overwhelming majority of elite recruits are located in the South, the Southwest and the West coast. The only state in the B1G with a lot of talent is Ohio — so the B1G is fighting an uphill battle. When you add in OSU is also the top school in the conference recruiting nationally — and right now it is OSU and then drop down a bunch of levels and then everyone elsw

Yet OSU has only won ONE title in how many years? 2 decades?

OSU did all that with a combo of luck and good to GREAT COACHES at the helm. But they struggled before Tressel showed up, if I remember right? Cooper was it? Started out pretty good but then struggled, got fired.

I remember being very disappointed over my Gophers losing to a crappy OSU team around 2002, I think? OSU ended the season 6-6 I think? Maybe that was 2000?

Tressel's first season wasn't very good, but then he shocked everyone winning the title in his 2nd season I think? So THAT is probably when most of the juice/mojo got pumped into the modern OSU program. THAT season is what has made OSU what they are today. Well, that and bringing in Urban to give the program the lift it ended up seeming like Tressel couldn't deliver? That is where I am suggesting luck came in. The planets all just aligned for Tressel that season, otherwise, how is it that he never repeated that in his next 8 or so years? I mean, Saban hadn't started at Bama yet, and Dabo was not at Clemson yet. He got lucky and OSU has milked that ever since.

Dude, stop making excuses. I can recognize what this is. As a Michigan fan, who shouldn't have to be living on the past like a Gopher fan HAS TO, you are embarrassed and ashamed that with all the resources Michigan has, they haven't been able to deliver, lol. So you have become a Master of Excuse Making.

STFU.

The B1G has only been the dominant league in the land when Minnesota reigned supreme, seems the B1G needs Minnesota to rise again and return the Conference to it's rightful place at the top. Wisconsin and Iowa both tried to be that team, but both came up short it seems. PSU was supposed to do it, but they also have just not quite delivered. All 3 of those help, as has MSU. But the B1G doesn't need more Top 5-15 type teams, it needs another Top 1-10 kind of team.

In 2-3 years, all of you B1G fans will be thanking Fleck and Minny for restoring the conference.

Oh, I'm not dissing OSU. But had Tressel not had that very well timed all the stars aligned Title season in 02 was it? The SEC would have won everything and OSU would not have done as well as they have. Tressel gave OSU the mojo needed to build up and prepare the table for Urban to come in and use all of that to do the impossible, beat the SEC's best.

And Urban winning a title just was a confirmation bias kind of thing, he made it look like Tressel's win wasn't luck, he gave Tressel's win look legit. Which it was, I mean, it's a coaches dream, to have all the stars align for them. Can't blame him, it's not like he cheated, he just was a good enough of a coach that he knew how to win big games, and he knew how to take advantage of all the stars aligning for him. Why did he struggle so after that? Did the NFL start to rob him of his best players and he didn't know how to adjust? That's what happened to many of the Title winning college hockey programs this century. The NHL so depleted college hockey, that in the last 20 years, all the blue blood programs have basically been drained and forced to figure out how to do things completely differently.

Hockey can take players much earlier, and there are fewer players so every loss hurts alot more. But the NFL all of a sudden noticing a program can make an impact if the coach isn't named Saban or Dabo. Both of those guys apparently have figured out how to deal with it. This is where I might agree with Michigan boy about the importance of recruiting, but I don't separate the concept of the Great Coach from recruiting. If a coach is a Great coach, it's partly because he's a great recruiter, and knows how to recruit good asst coaches, too.

This century only 6 programs have won multilpe titles.

Bama- 5 ('09, '11, '12, '15, '17)
Clemson- 2 ('16, '18)
LSU- 2 ('03, '07)
Ohio State- 2 ('02, '14)
Florida- ('06, '08)
USC- 2 ('03, '04)

"Well, that and bringing in Urban to give the program the lift it ended up seemingly like Tressel couldn't deliever?"

Tressel couldn't deliever? Okay you have to explain what you mean. Tressel went 106-22 in ten years before he got in trouble for that Tat 5 cover up. To say he didn't deliver is not only incorrect, but funny as hell.

"Cooper was it? Started out pretty good but then struggled"

Cooper's first year at Ohio State ('88) the Buckeyes went 4-6-1. Started out good? :pound:

Well, first off, in the very same post that I said, "has only won ONE title in how many year? 2 Decades?" I also mentioned both Tressel's and Urban's titles, so either I answered my own question, there was a question mark at the end of that sentence, so it WAS a question, or I was referring to a time period that did NOT include 2002. 2003-2020 is almost 2 decades(18 years).

So, 1 title in 18 years a dynasty does not make.

And yeah, if you win a title in your 2nd year, and then lose 1-3 games every season after that for 8 years, YEAH, that is struggling. I bet his recruiting classes were higher ranked AFTER 2002, than they were going in. That includes what Cooper left in the cupboards.

As for Cooper starting out good, I was referring to a couple 11-1 seasons he gave OSU. He didn't get fired for going 11-1. He got fired for struggling more and more as time when on AFTER going 11-1, right?

Ok, I'll google it.

Ok, I was wrong about Cooper. He started out REALLY BADLY, by OSU standards, can't believe you all stuck with him as long as you did? WOW. 5 years of crappy football before finally a good season. And then you all fire him after just 2 crappy seasons? Hey, maybe there were other factors, maybe you showed patience to start, and then after that long expected more? Totally understandable.

But what is funniest, is how wrong Michigan boy is. If OSU has all of the insurmountable advantages it supposedly has, how could Cooper have 24 non wins in a 5 year period and then have 10 losses in just 2 seasons? Cooper DID win 62 games in 6 straight seasons, so that would seem to indicate he was a good coach?

What happened? I didn't pay attention to cfb outside of the Gophers back then?

What you don't get is that tOSU's, Clemson's, and Alabama's are just an average coach away from being the (9-4)(10-3) type teams that Michigan is.

Probably because you're so narrow minded you're forced to pick low hanging fruit.

Seeing tOSU drop to (8-5) like Michigan would be a stretch though. Even Bo Pelini's basement didn't drop that far.

Hence Bo Pelini >>> Jim Harbaugh.

I think it's funny you excluded the '02 season in your Ohio State rant. As far as Cooper's unlucky 13 years in Columbus I think he was on the UofM's payroll those years. His 2-10-1 record vs. meeeechegan was awful.

"So, 1 title in 18 years a dynasty does not make"

I agree. But exactly who has called Ohio State football a dynasty?

And this right here, this is some funny stuff.

"if you win a title in your second year, and then lose 1-3 games every season after that for 8 years, YEAH, that is struggling"

After the '02 season Ohio State won double digit games 7 of the next 8 seasons. Not sure I'd really call that struggling.
