maybe we wont have to worry about the shootout much longer.

3on3 in overtime is just as stupid as a shootout.

i for one am fine with the shootout i always hate when people try and compare it to a home run derby or a 3 point contest. every sport is different. i'm sure if either baseball or basketball had games that could go on and on and on in overtime they would probably change the rules too. each sport is different and has different rules.

want to fix this big time and with the most ease.

1. drop the loser point.
2. make ot's 10min

remember hearing cangilosi say during the ranger game with 4 mins left. "each team will try and play it safe to get the 1pt" wtf there is 4 mins left! go get the win!

They better not go back to ties.

I wouldn't mind a 10 minute OT 4v4, then a shootout.

I don't see 3 vs 3 being any less gimicky than the shootout. Shootouts are exponentially better than ties. Leave it as is.

Also, if it's about teams mailing it in to get to OT, make a regulation win 3 points, OT win is 2 points and OT loss is 1.

My biggest complaint about the shootout is all the extra points given out to teams. Having the shootout in place really made movement in the standings much more difficult. If you fall behind now, there is practically no chance of making the playoffs while there was much better chances for a bad team to fix itself, improve, and go on a strong push for the playoffs.

Not sure if thats better or worse than having a logjam of teams competing for the 5-10 spots in the playoffs.

Stop making sense. Also, I LOVE Lou's idea of making OT a "long change" period like the 2nd

I'm fine with 3 on 3 for the 2nd OT. Regulation, 4 on 4 OT, 3 on 3 2OT, then shootout. Seems reasonable.

Its not much of a difference. I rarely see extended pressure in 1 zone in OT. you don't have the 5th guy to grind out the corners to hold a defense in. Its always back and forth which makes I think makes the long change rather pointless.

I like this.... I would even make it interesting that OT losses, the loser gets zero pts... a loss in the shootout, get your 1 pt....

3pt games are too much. a team that has a slow start has zero chance of catching the top team in their division. if hockey purists dont want to increase the goal even an inch i doubt they would be able to handle adding a point to wins.

btw what makes a hockey purist a hockey purist? at some point there has to be more against the purist view right?

Yeah I don't like 3 pt games either. Makes it too complicated for casual fans and really not needed. Better just to extend OT to 10 mins. It's not that much longer and could really allow teams to get into a good rhythm. Seems like in the 5 min OT teams get one or two great chances, and boom period over.

Leave the shootout, but I like the 10 minute OT.
4 on 4 allows us to see some wide open hockey. I don't mind extending that another 5 minutes.

just saw the replay of the goal that won it for us.

wow i think that might be the only way we will score a goal in overtime or a shootout this year. the other team has to score it for us!

I am for OT and SO rules staying unchanged, but points should be awarded differently. All game sports outside of our country using it 3-2-1 points. If teams want to get 3 points out of the game they would play hard till horn sounds and not thinking like: OK we get 1 point for sure then see if we are lucky to get one extra. In this system of points team get 2 extra points by winning at regulation time, 1 - at OT or SO.
Game will be more fun to watch. We have to sync up with the outside world.
