Our first look @ our new D
Day1 had:
DL consisting of Allen RDE, Ratliff & Paea @ DTs ,Houston LDE.

LBs were Briggs, Bostic @MLB (D.J. was no show ), Shea SLB ( he played MLB w/ the 2nd team)

Safeties were Mundy SS, M.D. Jennings FS.:L
Hope there's change there.

CBs were Peanut & Jennings ,till they went to nickel package. And that was big surprise to myself.
Jennings went to NB, and Fuller took his spot outside.
I think it's a good move to prepare the rook for his long term plan.
Just would hate to see Tim have to cover a monster TE in the slot.

Also D. Hixon tore his ACL & is out for the season.
Chris Williams impressed just about everybody (coaches & media ) with his quickness on STs.
Think he'll be #4 WR. As he can also run routes.

Just would like your thoughts on day1.

God dang that was quick. I didn't even post it and I already had a reply.
Forgot I had to edit a couple times.
To tell the truth. I visit multiple news sites before coming here. Just collect what data I can in this old brain of mine. There are stories @ ESPN, CSN, NFL.com, Bears .com.

Well… the Hixon part sucks.

Not that he was going to be a big part of the receiving game, but he's a reliable vet backup, and a guy who can return punts pretty well.

And looking fast in SPT's without pads doesn't impress me much. Not saying he won't impress the hell out of me come pre-season, but we'll see.

And Fuller didn't take Jennings outside CB spot. People are confusing this.

Jennings is still our primary corner opposite of Tillman. Right now, he will start there.

Jennings will move into the nickel, and Fuller will take the opposite corner spot of Tillman on nickel packages. Jennings is still the guy, and Fuller is off of the field in our 3 LB base sets.

And… why was DJ a no show?

(Bold)I think I stated that in the OP.
Don't know why D.J. was a no show. But these are voluntary OTAs. Maybe he's having too much fun where he is right now. Who knows.
Just thinks it gives the younger guys a chance to work more w/ the new coaches.
Hopefully it's a blessing that he isn't here.

Just think this isn't the "first" look at our defense. These are "voluntary" OTA's. Nothing to get excited about. Just think it would be nice to end these injury free

Great, they will move Jennings to the nickel position since Fuller is a better cover corner and the staff will be blamed when Jennings gets beat. Maybe its just better positioning since a safety might be closer when he jumps the route to get his pick 6.

Jennings said that it was about number of keys and assignments that the nickle needed to know. And on the outside there is less to worry about.
Being the first day, no need to over think this.
I'm excited to see what Williams can do.
I second the "no major injuries" throughout OTA's and Training Camp.
Go Bears.

Fuller is a bigger corner, he is more tailored to play outside than slot. Plus if he is supposed to be Tillman's eventual replacement, he may as well get his reps out there. Sounds like a good plan to me.

Is he even healed from that torn peck? I was thinking that was one of the 4-6 month injuries

Thats why DJ Moore and Frey, both rookies were playing the nickel? They did sign Haydon again didnt they? Sure sounds like there are more bodies to help on mistakes.

Pretty sure Moore didnt play the NB until his 2nd season. That typically is a lot to ask from a rookie CB.

Looks like 9 CBs on roster, they will probably take 5 into the season. So there's some competition. Obviously Tillman, Jennings, Fuller are locks. You''d think Hayden and Frey are the leading candidates for the last two spots, with McManis, Purdy, Wilson, and Hurst fighting to beat one of the leaders.

This is what I read:
The eight-year veteran played some slot early in his career with the Colts. He said he learned last week of the Bears’ desire for him to play inside in sub packages, a move that requires several adjustments. His experience should help him with those as opposed to the rookie Fuller.

“It’s a little different,” Jennings said. “You’re just another linebacker, an athletic linebacker, so you have to be able to see a lot more things. You have to be able to see a lot more backfield sets. It’s a lot more reads, a lot more keys that you have to get.

Well, he tore it on October 10th.

It's almost June 1st.

That's almost 8 months. I would think he's healed, but maybe not.

You have never been able to see past Conte, have you...:laugh3:

 Hell no. Just think it'll be into camp, when Brock secures the FS spot.
Again  Just hope if Conte starts. He makes the pro bowl. But I don't see that dumb ass starting.

Just think McManis makes the squad on his STs play. He also didn't make a fool of himself when called on to fill in @CB.
Not a big Hayden fan. Especially when the NB spot is getting crowded.
Don't know much about Purdy, Wilson ( a Good football name ,though), or Hurst (should we just bury him now,:laugh3:).
I think Hayden gets cut,Phil wants to get younger.

Nah… Phil went out of his way to bring back Hayden. Phil also mentioned that it's very important to surround our youth with veteran leadership. Which is what Hayden brings to the table. Especially when you're bringing in a guy like Fuller. Him playing with three experienced vets like Tillman, Jennings, and Hayden will be great for him. Hayden is easily one of our best five corners. He'll make the team, barring a big drop off or an injury.
