Wii is cool...but it's sort of a party game system. Mario is awesome as a classic option, but if you're talking a full brunt gaming system? PS3. Always been a sort of Xbox person, but the blu-ray pushes it over the edge. Only reason I'd get Xbox is for Halo.

I like the PS3 and XBox360. The Wii is really fun for groups but I do not think I'd play it alone. The Blu-ray and Uncharted makes the PS3 my choice.

I will be getting NHL 12 for the 360 shortly. Hooked on Gears 3 right now.

PS3 without question. All a 360 is is a 360. PS3 is a blue ray player, a PS3, a PS2, a PS1. For someone who likes to keep games and play them years later, nothing beats a PS3.

The newer PS3 consoles don't play PS2 and PS1 games out of the box anymore.

You can download them from the PlayStation Network, but you have to pay then. And for comparison purposes, you can download original XBox games on the 360.

One point of clarification on the XBox live service: there is a free version available for things such as downloading console and game updates, but to be able to play the games online with other people, you have to have the pay version of the service.

So if you want to play online with your friends, you must have the pay version. But you can play the games locally without it.

To answer the original question, I have all three consoles and would say that it depends on the type of gaming you want to do.

If you're interested in party-type games or want to be able to play with your kids (if you have them), the Wii is definitely the way to go.

If you're interested in first person shooters (Call of Duty, Battlefield, etc.), I would say your best bet is the 360.

If you're interested in 3rd person action games, I would say the PS3 is the way to go. They have a better suite of exclusives in this area (Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted, God of War for PS3 vs. Gears of War for 360), and there's generally very little difference between the cross-console ones like Batman, Assassin's Creed, etc.

I have a feeling my wife is getting me the Xbox 360 bundle that includes Kinect.

Should I be telling her that's a mistake?

I do like the fact that my kids can play games and be the controller without actually having a controller to break, or use it to break stuff around the house.

PS3 has the Move, which is the same thing as Kinect really. PS3 has Blu-Ray and free online, XBox has Halo and Gears and whatnot. Depends on what/if/how much you play.
