The problem is inflation. I'm not so sure one person working at McDonalds understands that, though.

Agreed... the workers have no clue. Someone gets them fired up by telling them they deserve more.. they act like morons for a while and get a little more. 3 months later, McDonalds lays off 10% of their workforce and makes the other 90% work harder to pick up the slack...

It is all a net sum game.

So does anyone want to pay $9.95 for a big mac? Jobs at McDonalds aren't designed to support families.

If they go to $15/hour for non-skilled and uneducated labor, then the business has to raise prices...dramatically.

If they raise prices dramatically, people will stop going to McDonalds.

If people stop going to McDonalds, the business goes "out of business."

If the business goes "out of business," the workers will go on unemployment.

If they go on unemployment, then they steal more of my money.

So don't pay them $15/hour.

It's time people realize that jobs aren't there because of you. They are there because of the consumer. If the consumer goes away, then the jobs go away.

If you have minimum education, minimum skill, and a questionable work ethic...you aren't going to be able to afford three children. Realize this and stop breeding. Either that or get educated, get skilled, and work your ass off.

I'm confused.

I thought we wanted all these lazy bastard, nanny-state people to get a fucking job and stop sucking on the government tit.

What kind of job do we want them to have again?

I'm pretty sure that part of that costs goes to the CEO's 27.2 million dollar salary.

when I worked in fast food, our managers did this little money saving thing called working short staffed.

One morning we ran McDonalds in the airport with just 2 people, the line was out the door and as far as the eye could see. fast food? you betcha ;)

Where would you like them to get educated or skilled?

Who would you like to pay for this education and skill?

Plenty of minimum wage folks work their ass off.

Maybe you should also realize that those people working at McDonalds are also CONSUMERS. If they aren't getting paid a "fair" (and no I won't get into an argument of what is fair or not) wage, they can't buy the product, the company goes out of business, bla bla bla, and the rest of the rhetoric that you just spewed.

A McDonalds franchise requires a huge investment in capital. The profit margin for the franchisee is slim. Labor costs must be controlled if the franchisee is to succeed. Yes the CEOs are in most cases way overpaid, but that doesn't help a guy who has 750k or more invested in the success of his store. As a guy who has worked for himself for the last 20 years, I tend to fall on the side of the business owner.

Cheap labor might be good for the business, but who do you suppose is paying for these folks to live? If it's not by the money they earn it has to come from somewhere. Who is paying their health care? The government is subsidizing these businesses by making up for everything the employer is NOT providing. Sounds like a good plan to me.

Where does it say it is the employer's responsibility to provide everything? Nobody makes anyone take these jobs. The jobs are offered at whatever rate they are offered, and the potential worker has to decide for himself if the pay/benefits are sufficient for the work required. I'll be damned if I would expect to support my family by working in a fast food restaurant. That's why many of the employees are either teenagers looking to make some spending cash, or retirees looking to supplement their social security/retirement.

I have no issue with that.... But there are plenty of folks that are angered by the fact that there are many minimum wage jobs available that folks will not take. Instead of taking these minimum wage jobs, people collect government benefits. There are those that scream 'GET A JOB,' but what they really mean is get a job that pays you enough to live. Sadly there are not enough of those jobs to go around.

I understand where you are coming from, but that doesn't mean any employer is responsible for the welfare of the poor. Sadly, if you can't make enough to succeed in one fulltime job, then maybe you should work two. As a small business owner I certainly put in as much time as a guy working two jobs does, and I'm as vulnerable to the big businesses as they are. Who's going to take care of these people? Well, some of them could do a better job of taking care of themselves. Nobody gave me a fucking thing or paid for me to educate myself. Financing for education is out there, too, and the loan availability is not connected in any way to your credit score.

doug might have a point with the franchise holders, those guys get screwed in the middle. They aren't quite as rich as the corporate fat cats.

Most of their "profits" get paid to the big corps as royalties. Don't get me wrong. A McDonalds restaurant pretty much is a license to print money, but the franchisee doesn't get to keep much of it. And as a consumer I sure don't want to pay 10 bucks for an egg mcmuffin.
