It is definitely effed up.

and you know more will happen. Was it another group of kids that attacked this poor kid? I cant get to the story as it is blocked at work

Radio said this morning police think it was a group and it was targeted but not gang-related or anything so who knows.

from the globalbc story - on last nights 11pm newscast, they mentioned he may have known the kids and that they may have lived in his neighbourhood

/ Pepper spraying is the thing that is rampant right now amongst kids. Back to back days a couple weeks back kids were pepper sprayed at my sons high school

there is no consequence for these kids. Sure they may do some Juvenile Detention but that wont stop the next kid from doing it again.

can you imagine if we had AR15 rifles as easily available as the US?

jesus, what happened to a plain old fight out by the bike racks

Yeah, I remember a couple of good scraps back in the day. I also remember becoming good friends after duking it out. Times have changed.

idk ... i think we all have selective memory in our old age ... I can remember stabbings in highschool ... but then I went to school in East Van :noidea: I can remember riding the #14 Hastings bus downtown to granville and it being a thing where you had to keep your head on a swivel and be aware of who was around you

what happened last night reminded me of Jesse Cadmans murder ... remember that ? 1992

/doesnt mean what happened last night isnt serious of course ... but it isnt really a new thing happening in todays society :noidea:

Could be selective memory or just lucky, but I don't remember too many stabbings in my high school. Plenty of fights though.

Nothing really untoward when I was in highschool.

There was one gang bang at the grad drunk.

And in grade 12 English we had to do speeches/presentations.

One guy built a time bomb. And the teacher only asked about it near the end when he was hooking up blasting caps and such. Cops came and took it away and him. The dynamite was actually old and unstable as well.

Just to add to the above (and again maybe it was a unique situation I found myself in or a small town thing), but the older kids looked out for the younger kids and did their best to play peacemaker and I think we tried to carry on that tradition when we were the older kids. I think that has gone the way of the dodo bird.

and see I have a totally different experience here lol (urban/rural divide i think) ... the grade 11's and 12's were merciless on the grade 8's and 9's when I went to school ... I think I mentioned it on these boards that the former front facing VPD PR spokesperson used to go to my highschool and patrol the halls where grade 8s had their lockers and lay beatings on grade 8 kids with those oversized jumbo plastic baseball bats ... he was born to be a cop i guess!

Meanwhile, my son is in hockey academy (not the expensive one lol) and he ended up in the alternate day 2 group because of the other electives he took ... he's one of 2 grade 9's in a group of about 20 grade 11's and 12's and all of them look out for the 2 grade 9's at the rink and away from the rink back at school

I think alot of that has to do with the emphasis on anti bullying programs in schools these days

My son had a hard time at school. They called him Limpit. Messed with his locker, hid his books, etc.
One night we were all watching a movie downstairs and we heard a series of bangs and booms on our sun deck.
A group of boys were running down the street laughing and screaming “Limpit!!!”
My daughter ID’d them.
The entitled group of dicks otherwise known as Powell River’s midget rep hockey team.
They had thrown 3 dozen eggs at our house. Egg everywhere, windows, cars, bamboo sun screens, etc.

can you imagine how much that would cost?

I was often a victim of bullying back in my school days. the worst I got was nasty notes in my locker, prank phone calls and girls pretending to like me just to make fun of me (funny thing is we had a school reunion and one of those girls apologized) . some egging occurred as well

our bullying back then seemed rather soft and juvenile. maybe like @jstewismybastardson mentioned that we just didn't see the brutal stuff due to no social media.
