He said it was because the players voted in several more starters, and so he left Cueto out because he's scheduled to pitch Sunday.

I say that's a convenient excuse....he could have named Cueto and then replaced him, it's done all the time.....he also made no phone call to consult with Baker, even though that is standard procedure.....Cueto has the best ERA combined over the last two seasons in the NL, and if he couldn't be named to the team why have one.....the only reason this happened is the dickhead still holds a grudge.....Phillips leads second basemen in RBI, and is the best defender at his position in all of baseball.....

LaRussa is an asshole. I thought we were done with him now that he retired - I forgot he still had one final act.

New rule allows Cueto to pitch 1 inning, I believe. Though, he could have named him and then replaced him, as stated above.

Phillips wasn't voted in by the players, either. Altuve was. Hard to argue against. Should he be there? Yeah. However, it's apparent that outside of Cincinnati, his "style" of play isn't endeared by a lot of people. Obviously when Uggla who isn't in the same stadium with BP as far as talent at 2B wins the fan vote.

Also with Cueto...lots of good pitchers this year. He was deserving, but so were a lot of other people. Hard to really rile up against LaRussa when you look objectively at the big picture. Easy to say he screwed them over on purpose, but honestly...a lot of good players could have/should have made it but didn't. That's the name of the game, and the way it goes every year.

Yeah, he's still an asshole, but the players vote put in several other starters not named Cueto too. He also skipped Grienke for the same reason.

He's got an extremely punchable face and seems like a total micromanaging prick. Also, looks like he never really got out of the 70's. Not a good combination. Fuck Tony LaRussa and the Cardinals.

Cueto has the second highest ERA and second most quality starts among starters in the NL. He's also the ace of a first place team. It was a total snub.

I agree that Cueto should have been on the team. But BP was going to be left out in the cold if he didn't win the overall vote. You could see it coming with the way Altuve was playing in Houston. They had no one else they were going to send.

However, the fact that Chipper is in the final 5 is ridiculous. There needs to start being a minimum amount of games played to be eligble for the all-star type games (and pro-bowl). If you can't play in 85% of your games, then you can't be an All-Star or Pro-bowler. Period.

I agree. I actually think the baseball all-star game works quite well, but I rarely watch it. I just don't like watching baseball unless the reds are involved.

Agree it was a snub, but the players voted first and they included 5 starting pitchers, none named Cueto.
