So I hosted a Halloween party tonight, and since we're all chemists, at least one person was bound to have some sort of chemistry demonstration, right?
Right.
An inorganic chemist brought a solution he made of boric acid in methanol and threw it on the fire, turning it green. Unfortunately, none of my photos of the fire at its green peak turned out very well, but I got this one with traces of green in the flame after it calmed down a bit.
And here's one a friend just posted on Facebook which is a little greener.
The guy in the middle is a former world champion who is making his comeback with a poor team. Yesterday was his first win in his return. The reason he "retired"? he was forced out of his seat at Ferrari by the guy in Red.
Also, the guy on the right is leading the world championship, had a massive strageric error in qualifying which left him starting DEAD last. The guy in red was second in points and surely stood to take over the championship lead yesterday. Since he is in the picture, that means he went from 24th to third. And retained the championship lead.
Early on this season I suggested that the house league should bring some coaches at other levels in to talk to the kids. I thought, every one of us coaches has a kid on a team, and kids notoriously don't listen to their parents. Thought it would be good if they got some insight on what it means to be a hockey player from people who make a living at the game.
Just found out that my suggestion has borne fruit.
