"This is Carcosa!" haunting

In the preview at about 0:06, looks like one of the detectives is tied to the bed. Cohle, maybe?

going back to my theory a couple weeks back ... Ive fiddled with it lol ... anyone think Hart could possibly be Carcosa's PI, hired by the Tuttle ministry to find Cohle?

yah I just read something that would appear to blow this "idea" out of the water lol

Everyones narrative on this show is filled with half truths if not outright lies so i thought there would be a twist end for sure ... still might be but ???

For some reason I think we are seeing the real Marty and Rust at this point. There might be more to one or both of them, but I don't think they are involved and feel they both want to find out what happened and stop it.

Here a weird thing. HBO usually renews shows for the next season right at the beginning of the season. They did it with Girls again this year. As of right now True Detective hasn't been renewed for season 2. Its ratings are really high for the network, its very buzzed about and its expected to sell a lot of DVDs but no second season yet. I am sure they will, I just find it odd they are taking their time.

yah i can buy that now ... even though when Marty and Cohle were asking each other why they left/what theyve been doing with their lives ... its seemed like both were putting their subtle interrogation skills to work on each other ... and we saw how they have reacted to/behaved while being interrogated ... half truths & lies

Ive come back to a bad-stuff-happened-to-Audrey theory but not at Martys hands ... Martys father in law?

Childress. Now there's a name hasn't gotten quite enough attention from True Detective obsessives. It was first invoked halfway through episode one, which makes sense considering writer Nic Pizzolatto says 85 percent of the mystery's clues are folded into that first episode. Ted Childress was the sheriff in Erath when young Marie Fontenot disappeared in 1990—he's relocated and out of the picture by the time Hart and Cohle show up in his successor's office in '95. The official story was that Marie's father took her away from her prostitute mother—we're told Sheriff Childress knew Marie's family, and everyone agreed the girl was better off with her daddy. But the truth, according to a videotape found in Reverend Billy Lee Tuttle's safe, is that Marie was raped and murdered in some sort of horrifying backwoods ritualistic sacrifice.

The name Childress pops up again in episode five, "The Secret Fate of All Life." One of the officers who escorted the double murder suspect Guy Francis to his cell before he killed himself—Francis, you'll recall, told Cohle he'd never actually caught the "Yellow King" in '95 —was named Childress. And now in episode 7, we learn from Sam Tuttle's former maid that the oft-mentioned tall man with the scars on the bottom of his face was one of Tuttle's grandchildren, and a Childress. His father "did that to him." Sam Tuttle is Reverend Billy Lee Tuttle's father, so it seems likely our Green Eared Spaghetti Monster is a blood relative of the good reverend, and possibly the son of former Sheriff Childress. Carcosa appears to be the name of their traditional human sacrifice stomping grounds. And Eddie Tuttle, Billy Lee's cousin, is no longer Governor in 2012—he's senator. And my head is spinning. Where's that flask?

Read that.

yah i saw something on that this morning ... the easter eggs and hidden meanings are rampant in this series

on Childress: And that name can’t be coincidental, can it? Historically, it is said to derive from Childerhouse, which “may have referred to some form of orphanage perhaps run by a religious order.” At the very least, the echo of children seems deliberate.

Yeah, I agree. They both have serious flaws and have made serious mistakes, and this is their way to find redemption for all of it.

theres this easter egg too

And it was hard to tell—because the screen only briefly showed it—but were those not black stars in the painting next to Audrey’s snapshot in Maggie’s house?

Matthew McConaughey Not Returning for Season 2 of 'True Detective'

Hours after winning the Best Actor Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club, Matthew McConaughey announced that he wouldn't be returning to the second season of HBO's critically acclaimed crime drama True Detective, according to E!
"Season one was finite," McConaughey told the media backstage at the award show Sunday night.

We all figured it, just sucks.

HBO has yet to officially confirm a second season of the show, though Nic Pizzolatto, the show's creator, told Rolling Stone that he's already started writing the next season. (Like the first season, the author has eschewed a writing team in favor of writing the entire season himself.) "I've got three characters I love right now, and they're all unique, and neither of them is Cohle or Hart," he says.

Wasn't Maggie wearing a sweater made of stars?

I still believe the star power this series can attract will be it's main asset. Season 1 has set them up for a couple years.

Re-watching this season after the fact is going to be enjoyable to pick up what I missed the first go'round.

2 more days!!!

Rewatched that clip a half dozen times today to see how Rust analyzed the scene... Just as Marty lays on the horn the spaghetti haired monster turns his head simultaneously with Rust, so the burn scars were most likely never in good view. Pretty sure the attention was focused on one Reginald Ledoux at that point anyhow.

It's time to fuck him up.

Three questions:

(1) We saw a white guy strapped to the bed in the preview. Does Marty or Rust die? If so, which one?
(2) Does Marty's daughter Audrey return in the finale? Her picture had black stars in it.
(3) Does the scar-faced man get it? Or does he get away in some way?

Not that any of it matters, since time is a circle.
