2D mainly due to it being far less crowded.

lol, yea 3d iMax is fucking crazy on opening weekend of big movies. The only movie I ever saw 3d was Alice In Wonderland. I was baked out of my mind which is what made up for the retarded people around me.

Thanks to that passage right there I am a little more optimistic. I'll be catching this soon. I was disappointed with the Thor movie.

I hate to come off as a negative Nancy again, but if you're a big fan of Thor swinging his hammer around really fast before he takes to the air, then you'll love him in this movie. :L

I liked that movie too, it looked awesome in Imax. I hate to burst your bubble, but more than likely all those "retards" around you were just baked out of their minds... meaning that you were in fact.... retarded!

Yeah it was a steaming hot mess. I could go on for a good while about everything that was wrong with that movie. However, I thought Ryan Reynolds did a good job as Hal Jordan all things considered, they were at least somewhat able to establish the history of the GLC, the guardians, and Planet OA, and they sort of laid the groundwork for the Sinestro Corps War. If the sequel is placed in more competent hands, the franchise could still be very promising. The GL mythos has been almost entirely revamped in the last few years by Geoff Johns, and has been my favorite book to follow since. They should just have him write the next script.

I also hated the fact that it was another movie where everyone thought it was a mistake that a human was chosen to be the savior because the human race is worthless in the Universe, but they change their mind, and admit they may have been wrong once he pulls it off.

You mean to tell me that with all the shit going on in the Universe, the human race is the worst of the worst?

I say we bomb them all.

Really enjoyed it. I knew Whedon could write (even though I've never been much of a fan), but it was a big step up in his direction, particularly visually. It was also nice to see Live Action 3D that wasn't pushed as much as possible, and it never took me out of the movie. As someone who works on 3D films, I was very impressed with the level of restraint.

Most importantly, they finally got The Hulk right, imo.

The Dark Knight still is #1 for a "hero/comic" movie.

Batman (1989) > Dark Knight

Okay, Freeman, Cain, and Oldman are all silly, but...
-Christian Bale's "gruff" Batman voice is annoying, not great acting
-Kim Basinger in her prime pwns Maggie Gyllenhall
-Nicholson and Ledger - both fantastic, wash

Haven't seen the Avengers yet, but it looks really fun. Looking forward to it.

Also, :nerd:s.

never really compared those 2 before. but yes I agree. I guess I look at it from modern day.

1989 Batman was so good. It still holds weight today.

Will read through this thread after I see it this week, hopefully Monday or Tuesday. Sounds like Whedon pulled it off.

Definitely will see it in 2D. I went to see John Carter of Mars (only movie playing) on the biggest screen in the world in Korea, and the experience was ruined by 3D glasses. The only movie that's pulled it off well so far was Avatar, IMO.

Sorry, not a wash. Not by a longshot. Ledger played the Joker like a true psychotic. Nicholson was just hamming it up.

Now, if Nicholson could have played the joker more like the work he did in the Shining, then maybe we'd have a comparison.

I am glad not too many people are complaining about the Brad Pitt cameo as Danny Rand. Yeah it was only a short scene but I wouldn't have been surprised if it bugged people.

If you think about it, he did at first. Then as the movie moved on, it seemed as though he switched to the TV Batman.

" The Avengers" has already amassed $641.8 million in its first 12 days. $200M of that was from North America in its weekend opening.

it should crack $1B easy.

So I saw it. Thought it was great. Definitely not a "greatest movie ever" great, but great at living up to its goal: fun, over-the-top action oriented superhero movie.

A few positives that really stood out:

1) The cast and the character interactions. I didn't know how well it would work having three alpha-male type characters (not counting Banner) interacting. I thought it would be too much of the same. But Whedon did well to differentiate the characters and their relationships were great. I'm not a fan of Whedon generally, his quips normally bother me, but they worked here. He obviously knew his characters.

2) The climactic battle. When I think to other recent superhero films, including Nolan's batmans, the most memorable parts are usually the build-up, with the final fight being somewhat underwhelming or forgettable. Not this time. The battle in Manhattan hit all the right notes for me.

As for negatives, it would have been nice to flesh out more characters, but honestly, could they have? It would have been five hours long. I disagree with IPW on Black Widow, I thought her character was awesome. Hawkeye was the only one on the team that got the short end of the stick. The plot wasn't very memorable (alien invaders!) but it was IMO the best way to force all these guys to work together. And even though the aliens kind of sucked, Loki was an aweseme villain, and this allows them to introduce some more interesting villains in the sequel. (Kind of like how Nolan saved Joker for the sequel as well.)

All in all, though, just one of the most fun films I've seen in a long time. The Nolan batman universe is great, but this is a nice counter.

Also, I'm not pumped about JLA at all. I just don't think they're nearly as interesting outside of Batman.

Bad timing for this to come out while I'm in the south pacific. :)
(I know, hard to feel sorry for me)

Sooooooo looking forward, as is lil biz, to see when we get back.

I feel like the only person on the planet that hasnt seen this yet.
So have to avoid all discussions. :(

Along the same lines...
Thanks for the white text above. :-D
Great move.

Yes it does. Fucking Clooney made most people forget about Keaton's Batman movies.

If that was a pun on Mark Hamill's Joker voice, then I rep you with full compliments.

In fact, I will anyway. :yo:

That's why I prefer Mark Hamill and Jack Nicholson. It was pure ham, but with a touch of Warner Brothers gangster. The crazy Heath Ledger thing was good for the tone of the Nolan movies though, but it's not my type of Batman. Still... definitely the best part of that movie.

Saw The Avengers today. I liked it. It did Loki a hell of a lot more justice than Thor. Good use of the Hulk, a little light on Hawkeye (probably a good idea), a little light on Captain America, but the perfect amount of Iron Man.
