Hockey players play 82 games in the regular season.

Football players are bitching about playing 18 games...

HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA, I hope the league shuts down, fucking pussies.

yah but linemen bash heads every play

we'll probably end up seeing alot more of them in high speed police car chases while loaded on pain killers and other miscellaneous drugs in the next 10 years

Why do I think of the movie "Spies Like Us" whenever I see the word "Pussies"?

I agree both games are completely different. But many athletes all over will say hockey is the hardest sport both mentally and physically. These assholes make enough money to give the fans another 2 games... Its a joke.

I was hoping this thread would go in another direction.

Hockey does not beat you up like football does. Hockey is very fast and thus you do get some big hits, but lets be realistic here, the actual amount of time you spend in direct contact with another while you're on ice is pretty low and the amount of time you have to exert yourself physically against someone else is even less. Offensive and defensive linemen are 300+ lb players pushing, pulling and otherwise fighting to try and either block the defense or break your way through the line to get to the QB every down. Running backs generally carry the ball 20+ times per game and they don't always have the fortune of running out of bounds. There's a reason all these football players are ending up with brain damage. It really is a whole nother animal like Rick said.

I'll agree with you that hockey players are the toughest sons of bitches in sports. But there's really no comparison between hockey and football when you compare the physical beating your body takes play in and play out. Football takes that in a landslide.

If the NFL gets its way and 2 more games, I'm gonna be ticked. These guys are constantly battling nagging injuries, and to have to play 2 more meaningful games is nuts. There won't be any players left for the playoffs. In reading and researching some articles, the NFL has no legs to stand on and their being ridiculous about what they want. I agree that players are paid far too much, but it's not like the NFL isn't making tons of money.

Played both....

Hockey has harder hits (faster speed)

Football has exponentially more constant hitting

After a hockey game, i would go to the bar, maybe and icy hot patch or two on me.

After football games, I would go to the ice bath for 20 minutes or so, take a hot shower, go home to bed, and maybe, MAYBE be up for going out to the bar 3 days later.

I love hockey, but the toll on the body does not compare between the two sports.

Don't let the money fool you too much:

NHL = guaranteed contracts
NFL = guaranteed...umm...well....signing bonus

An NFL contract may as well read: 47 years, 8 billion dollars, 3 million guaranteed.....as the only part that matters is that last number.

It's bad enough that the Bills have to put 20+ players on IR in a 16 game season, I can't even imagine what would happen in 18 games.

The whole o-line and defense is one big cluster fuck that has huge fat man falling on top of one another. Lots of chances for some injuries to happen. Granted the injuries may not always be severe, but they can lead to a decline in a player's ability to play at 100%, and therefore cost him a starting job or pay down the road.

Running backs get hit plenty times a game, and they are very replaceable. 18 games is nothing more than a way for certain owners to simply get richer.

Do you know how many large beers Qwest Field could sell to people in an extra home game?

(and yes I'm aware that the whole thing has possibly been debunked as not a scam after all)

These are fantastic points. With this kind of attrition, how can the Bills be expected to be able to play a 2 or even 3 game playoff run with one week's bre....

...oh wait....

....never mind

I'll be happy at this point if they can play a full 16 games with a winning record.

Baby steps. Don't most babies take 11 years or longer before they start to walk? :L

12 minutes of actual playing a game. If it's an even split, that's 6 minutes for offense and 6 for defense, not including special teams. Yea, football players have it rough.
