That's inaccurate. While not everything which works on mice will work on humans (or vice versa), the insights gained from those tests can help design future experiments, and there are sufficient similarities between our systems and mice's to draw some real conclusions.

Science often involves testing increasingly simple models to build explanations for complex ones. Mice are simpler physiologically than humans, so it is reasonable to use them as simple model systems. Could there be more effective methods? Sure. We just don't know them yet, and there are more factors than just how accurate the information is at play, like time and money.
