Also, there's a scheduled power outage on campus, so a calculation I've already lost progress on twice because first someone unplugged the computer and second there was an unscheduled power outage, is going to be lost again. And my vacuum chamber is going to be not at vacuum when I get in tomorrow, so it'll basically be a lost day pumping the whole thing back down again.

Some malicious force really doesn't want me to graduate.

Son played a game for that club team tonight.

He faced 71 shots.

Stopped all but 7. 90% Not convinced he faced 71 shots the whole season last year.

Team he got cut from played today too. The goalie who made it got pulled in the second period after giving up 5 on 8 shots.

JV Coach says Varsity coach wants to address reasons for cut. JV Coach gives me email address for Varisty coach. I compose email, wait a day before sending. Limit snarkiness, even.

Send email - invalid email address.

It's almost like they don't want to talk to me.

Finally got the feedback from the coach about the boy being cut. I am convinced he either didn't watch any goalies or he has no idea who my son is.

He said goalies should:
Have good lateral movement across the crease
Come out above the crease to challenge shooters
Stay upright when the play is in tight.

Here is a video from 3 days before the cut. This kid? This one needs to do those things? We are all hockey fans here. We've watched this game for a while, be honest with me. Does the kid in this video look like *THOSE* are his problems?

If the coach had said he carries his blocker a bit low and tight to his body, or that he doesn't get both knees down fast enough, yeah. But none of that bollocks above.

My only response to that would be to raise an eyebrow.

My flash drive stopped working. I'd been keeping my presentation on it for a talk I'm giving tomorrow, and I found out today--after working on the presentation most of the day yesterday--that I can't write to it anymore. None of my changes saved. The computer thought they did. PowerPoint went through the usual displays after I clicked save, and allowed me to close it without a prompt asking if I wanted to save the changes I'd made, but nothing wrote to the drive. No indication it had failed, but it had, and now I have to do all that work all over again. And I need to buy a new flash drive.

Crap.

The team that cut him just played a consolation game in the Thanksgiving tourney they won last year. They won the consolation game 9-8.

The game was against a team my boy played 3 times last season and gave up a total of one goal in those three games.

They took the wrong goalie.

8 goals on 24 shots. They gave up 7 goals total in the same tourney last year. And played better teams. This year they gave up 3, 4, 3, and 8.

Wrong. Fucking. Goalie.

Doesn't drive me nuts but it does my wife and kids when I go to Costco or the grocery store with them.

Just a reminder folks to check your credit card statements (either on-line or those you get mailed to your residence), I just had to close my credit close and get a new one issued due to some recent transactions showing up as fraudulent. I made a on-line purchase with this card a few weeks ago on what I believed was a secure web site, but somebody got my credit card number and started to make some purchases over the last couple of weeks. I'm confident that these purchases will be removed and I'll be reimbursed, it's just a hassle more than anything else.

Don't just look for big transactions.

Bad guys (God Damned Ukranians mostly) will do small transactions to verify the card numbers are good before they post the numbers for sale online.

If you see a one dollar or less transaction anywhere on your statement, call you bank and get flags set on your account They will scrutinize purchases a little more after that.

The lady at the hardware store that turned and said "We say... MER...RY...CHRIST...MAS!!!" to the poor, bewildered store clerk after she has politely said "thanks and happy holidays" to the customer.

I understand that some people think PCism goes too far. I get it, and I agree at times.

But that's not PCism, it's just nice manners. And manners are in short supply.

Disagree. Nice manners is doing a thorough background check on anyone you might encounter so you know which holiday they celebrate, and convey the appropriate wishes.
