not sure about in the States, but there was a time up here when Gary 'The Kid' Carter was the epitome of what baseball was all about (in a good way).

I worshipped gary carter lol. Wanted to play baseball because of him ... Wanted to catch because of him ... Wore #8 because of him ... Even wanted a perm like his

I seem to recall he had a cdn knockoff version of the tv show the baseball bunch that came on saturday morning before the US one with johny bench

When I was 11 bj surhoff came to our little league opening day to do a clinic with some other vancouver c's and all I asked him when he signed my hat was whether he ever played with gary carter

Hopefully his final days are peaceful ones

Andre Dawson was the first player that came to mind when thinking about that era. Man was a giant. With a giant smile to boot.
